Steven Okert | Fantasy Outlook

Steven Okert remains sidelined with a hamstring strain as Houston battles for AL West positioning

Okert has not appeared in a game over the past seven days and remains on the 15-day injured list due to a right hamstring strain suffered in early September. Before landing on the shelf, the veteran southpaw posted a 2.86 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over his last eight appearances. His dependable presence is sorely missed by the first-place Astros, who sit at 75-75 and are currently fighting through a three-game losing streak.

Okert has put together a standout 2026 campaign, generating a 2.45 ERA and 1.00 WHIP across 68 appearances while collecting 21 holds. He has vastly outperformed our season projection of a 3.94 ERA, fueled by an outstanding strikeout-to-walk ratio near 4.9. While some modest ratio regression is expected given his track record, his improved zone control confirms this high-leverage surge is largely genuine.

Houston hosts Kansas City and Atlanta for a six-game homestand this week, but Okert remains without a firm return timetable and will not pitch in the immediate future. Lacking save upside in a bullpen anchored by closer Josh Hader, an injured setup arm cannot be rostered in standard formats. Sit.
