Ian Seymour offers elite strikeout upside despite recent role volatility

Seymour has been a revelation for the first-place Rays, who currently lead the AL East with a 56-38 record. While he is listed as a primary relief option, he has recently transitioned into a starting role due to rotation injuries to Ryan Pepiot and Steven Matz. His last 14 days have been a total rollercoaster, highlighted by a dominant 12-strikeout performance followed by a difficult outing where his weekly ERA ballooned to 14.52 over his last 3.1 innings.

Under the hood, Seymour’s swing-and-miss stuff is elite, evidenced by 34 strikeouts over his last 25.4 innings of work. This surge in dominance far exceeds his career baseline, though our season models expect his ratios to eventually settle around a 3.95 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP.
