Griffin Jax makes throwing progress from elbow injury as the first-place Rays manage his rotation return

Jax was thriving in the rotation before landing on the 15-day injured list with right elbow discomfort on August 8, having posted a stellar 1.67 ERA and 23 strikeouts across 16.2 innings in his last three outings. The first-place Rays (76-50) received encouraging news after an elbow injection allowed him to resume long tossing up to 120 feet. He remains sidelined from active rotation duties while building arm strength back up.

Across 88.4 innings this season, the converted reliever has logged a solid 3.67 ERA and 100 strikeouts, aligning closely with our baseline projection of a 3.36 ERA. His 10.18 K/9 strikeout ability translated smoothly into a starting role, showing that his mid-season rotation success is backed by legitimate swing-and-miss stuff rather than luck. Assuming no structural setbacks in his elbow, he should resume providing reliable ratios upon his activation.

With Tampa Bay finishing a set against Toronto and traveling to Baltimore this weekend, Jax will not pitch as starters like Freddy Peralta and Shane McClanahan take the mound. Fantasy managers should keep him stashed on injured lists until a minor league rehab assignment or targeted return date is announced. Sit.
