Mark Vientos showcases immense power on rehab assignment with imminent return to Mets lineup

Vientos has been sidelined since July 9 due to a fractured right hand, but he signaled he is close to 100 percent after blasting three home runs in a Triple-A rehab tilt on Sunday. He is targeting an early September activation to provide punch for a fifth-place Mets club (61-76), where Jared Young is currently manning first base.

Before landing on the injured list, Vientos had endured a step back with a .211 average and 11 homers in 73 games, falling short of his 32-homer breakout from 2024. While our projections anticipate a .240 average and .295 on-base percentage, his explosive minor-league performance indicates his timing and exit velocity have quickly returned.

The Mets are slated for six games this week, opening on the road against Tampa Bay's Ian Seymour (4.40 ERA) and Freddy Peralta (5.15 ERA) before returning home against the Giants. While the matchups against elevated-ERA arms are enticing, fantasy managers should keep him stashed on injured reserve until his everyday role is confirmed. Sit.
