Chandler Simpson’s elite speed returns to form following minor finger injury

Simpson is back in the lineup as the primary left fielder after dealing with sore fingers that sidelined him briefly last week. He has been on fire lately, hitting .467 over his last seven days and raising his 14-day average to a robust .361 with five stolen bases in that span. He provides a needed spark for the first-place Rays, who lead the AL East with a 52-35 record despite a recent two-game skid.

The recent hot streak is a welcome sight after a mid-June slump where his average dipped significantly. While he has yet to hit a home run this season, which aligns with our projection of just two long balls, his .274 season average is quickly climbing back toward the .282 mark our models expect. His elite speed remains his carrying tool, and his 21 steals through 82 games prove he is still one of the most dangerous runners in the league.

The week ahead features seven home games, starting with a four-game set against the Yankees followed by three against the Mariners. While he faces a tough challenge against Cam Schlittler and his 2.08 ERA, matchups against Will Warren (3.72 ERA) and a struggling Gerrit Cole (4.01 ERA) offer prime opportunities to reach base.
