Aroldis Chapman | Fantasy Outlook

Aroldis Chapman remains an elite closing asset following All-Star milestone

Chapman enters the second half of the season as a record-breaking All-Star, having recently surpassed the all-time strikeout record for relief pitchers. He serves as the primary closer for a third-place Red Sox team that is currently 46-48 and riding a blistering nine-game winning streak. Despite trade rumors earlier this summer, he remains the most vital arm in a bullpen that is successfully supporting a roster hindered by numerous injuries to the starting rotation and infield.

While his 6.75 ERA over the last 30 days suggests some mid-summer shakiness, his season-long numbers are much more indicative of his true value. With 19 saves and a 2.23 ERA through 28.2 innings, he is significantly outperforming our models, particularly regarding his 1.24 WHIP. His elite 11.49 K/9 rate confirms that the 38-year-old veteran still possesses the triple-digit heat necessary to maintain a high-leverage role regardless of occasional control blips.

The Red Sox wrap up the week with a three-game home set against the first-place Rays starting Friday. Chapman is projected to see multiple save opportunities against a Tampa Bay lineup that will face Griffin Jax and his 3.46 ERA in the series opener. Given Boston's current momentum and Chapman's ability to provide both saves and ratio-stabilizing strikeouts, he should be kept in all active lineups. Start.
