Ronel Blanco returns to action but faces tough upcoming test against Texas

Blanco has recently returned to the mound following an injured list stint, recording 12 strikeouts across 9.3 innings in his last two appearances while dealing with some early rust and home run trouble. The Astros currently sit in third place in the AL West with a 52-55 record, continuing to navigate a roster that has dealt with multiple injuries to key personnel including pitching depth. Blanco slots back into the rotation mix following his recovery.

His recent two-appearance sample yields an 8.71 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP, which represents a clear spike compared to his stellar 2.84 ERA from the previous season. While the long ball has been an issue right out of the gate, his career baseline and previous volume suggest he should see positive regression toward his season projection of a 4.26 ERA once his mechanics fully stabilize.

Blanco is lined up for a single start this week on August 1st at home against the Rangers, squaring off against opposing starter Kumar Rocker, who holds a 4.23 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. With just one appearance on the schedule and lingering control questions after his lengthy layoff, managers should approach him with caution this time around. Sit.
