Top prospect Sebastian Walcott continues dominant return at Double-A
Walcott has been tearing the cover off the ball since returning from internal brace surgery, recently promoted to Double-A Frisco where he has continued to flash elite power and multi-hit consistency. While the Texas Rangers currently sit in first place in the American League West with a 55-53 record, the major league club is currently navigating multiple infield injuries, including a back injury sidelining Corey Seager and a calf strain for Josh Jung. Although Walcott remains anchored in the minor leagues for developmental reps following his lengthy recovery, his status as the organization's top prospect keeps him firmly on the fantasy radar.
Since our season projections and career baseline data for the young shortstop are minimal given his status as a minor-leaguers, his current tear must be evaluated strictly on his recent explosive outputs. Surging through his initial Double-A stretch with multiple extra-base hits and home runs traveling over 440 feet, his hot streak highlights the immense upside that made him a premier international prospect. While a high-strikeout or cold-regression period is always a risk for a 20-year-old adjusting to advanced pitching post-surgery, his raw power profile is entirely legitimate.
As Walcott continues his minor-league assignment, the Rangers' major league club is gearing up for a busy week on the road against American League West rivals. Because Walcott is currently playing at the Double-A level rather than active major league games, fantasy managers should leave him on the waiver wire in standard redraft formats while aggressively monitoring his progress for a potential late-season call-up. Hold in deeper dynasty formats.
