Dylan Cease dominating the American League with historic strikeout numbers
Dylan Cease has been virtually uncatchable over his last 34.2 innings, racking up 49 strikeouts while maintaining a sterling 1.84 ERA and 0.85 WHIP. The Blue Jays sit in fifth place in the AL East with a 48-58 record and have dealt with significant injuries across the roster, including long-term absences to starters like Patrick Corbin and Jose Berrios, elevating Cease's importance as a rotation anchor.
His recent tear, highlighted by a dominant one-hit shutout against the Giants where he carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning, strongly aligns with his elite strikeout ability seen in our season projections. While maintaining a 13.54 strikeout rate per nine innings is difficult to sustain at peak levels, his underlying ratios and consistent swing-and-miss stuff suggest this high-end production is legitimate rather than a fluke.
