Dylan Cease maintains elite ace status despite recent bump

Cease remains the undisputed staff anchor for the 73-74 Blue Jays as they navigate a crowded AL East. Over the past 30 days, he has posted a superb 2.89 ERA and 1.05 WHIP across six starts with 43 strikeouts, reinforcing his rotation value while rotation mates Jameson Taillon and Shane Bieber remain sidelined. A recent rocky start in Sacramento barely blemishes what has been a historic run of missed bats.

His 2026 campaign has thoroughly eclipsed our preseason 3.81 ERA projection, headlined by a pristine 2.44 ERA and an eye-popping 227 strikeouts. Boasting an elite 12.9 K/9 and a career-best 1.06 WHIP, this dominant performance is no fluke, but rather the ceiling of his electric arsenal. While his occasional walk spikes remain a factor, his ability to strand runners keeps his ratios extraordinarily safe.

After taking a loss on Monday to open this two-start week, Cease concludes his slate on Sunday at home against Baltimore. He faces left-hander Trevor Rogers, who enters with a 4.22 ERA and 1.23 WHIP.
