Michael Petersen's fantasy value is on hold following an injury exit from the Marlins' bullpen

Petersen was excellent over his last 14 days, pitching to a 2.14 ERA and 0.95 WHIP while emerging as a reliable high-leverage arm. However, he exited his last appearance on July 12 with a trainer, a worrying development for a third-place Miami club that currently sits at 52-45 and is already missing several key relievers like John King and Anthony Bender. While he serves as the primary setup man in the Marlins' hierarchy, his immediate health status is the primary concern for managers.

His 2026 campaign has been a significant improvement over our data's original projections, as he currently holds a 3.42 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP across 36.8 innings. The underlying metrics are very encouraging, specifically a career-best 11.74 K/9 and a 3.20 strikeout-to-walk ratio that dwarfs his previous seasons. If the recent injury is minor, he should remain a dependable source of holds and strikeouts, though his historical hit rates suggest his current WHIP might be slightly fortunate.

The Marlins finish the week with a three-game road series against the first-place Brewers. Although our models project him to contribute over a hold this week with a strong 2.36 ERA, the total lack of activity since his injury exit makes him a significant liability for active weekly lineups.
