Brandon Young emerges as a high-whiff rotation staple for Baltimore

Young has been a revelation for the fourth-place Orioles, who enter the second half with a 46-51 record and a four-game win streak. Over his last seven days, he delivered a strong seven-inning quality start, though his 1.67 WHIP over the past two weeks highlights some ongoing struggle with base runner management. He has firmly established himself as a mid-rotation staple, providing critical stability while the team navigates significant pitching injuries to veterans like Chris Bassitt and Zach Eflin.

The 27-year-old righty has vastly outperformed his 2025 totals, lowering his ERA to a much more palatable 3.84 through 82 innings this season. While his 1.40 WHIP remains a concern, his underlying swing-and-miss stuff is elite, recently highlighted by a career-high 23 whiffs in a single outing. Our data suggests his ERA could settle closer to 4.50 over his final starts, but his ability to miss bats provides a high fantasy floor even if his hit rate remains elevated.
