Reid Detmers | Fantasy Outlook
Reid Detmers looks to stabilize ratios following a difficult July slide
Detmers has struggled significantly of late, posting a 10.00 ERA and 2.00 WHIP over his last two starts. This poor run of form coincides with a rough stretch for the fifth-place Angels, who currently sit at 38-59 and have lost eight of their last ten games. Despite the volatility, he remains a fixture as the number three starter in the rotation, a role solidified by long-term injuries to rotation mates Yusei Kikuchi and Jack Kochanowicz.
While a 5.63 ERA over the last month is concerning, his season-long 1.18 WHIP and elite 10.50 K/9 rate indicate his swing-and-miss stuff remains intact. Our models project him to settle closer to a 4.40 ERA by season's end, suggesting that his recent command issues are a temporary regression rather than a total collapse. His fantasy value remains tied to his high-ceiling dominance, highlighted by a career-high 14-strikeout masterpiece earlier this summer.
The Angels host the Tigers for a three-game weekend series, but Detmers is not currently scheduled to start in the remaining games against a surging Detroit rotation. The Tigers will feature Troy Melton and his elite 1.82 ERA alongside ace Tarik Skubal, making for difficult matchups regardless of who is on the hill for Los Angeles. With Detmers allowing 14 hits over his last nine innings, fantasy managers should keep him on the bench until his ratios stabilize. Sit.
