Ben Joyce locks down closer duties with elite velocity despite occasional control bumps

Joyce has cemented himself as the Angels' primary closer, locking down four saves since returning to the bullpen despite a last-place Angels club (56-93) currently enduring a three-game skid. Over his last 14 days, the flamethrower has posted a 4.50 ERA and 1.25 WHIP across four frames, routinely touching triple digits. While command remains a work in progress, his grip on the ninth inning is secure.

His 3.95 ERA and 1.14 WHIP across 11.1 innings this year align well with our projections, backed by 15 strikeouts and fastball speeds topping 104 mph. Although his 6.08 ERA over the last 30 days illustrates the volatility tied to his elevated walk rate, the sheer dominance of his heater keeps him well above replacement level. The bat-missing upside is genuine and sustainable.
