Will Smith progressing in neck recovery but remains sidelined through the weekend

Smith has been sidelined since June 6 with an inflamed disc in his neck and has not appeared in a game for over a month. The first-place Dodgers currently sit at 61-36 and lead the NL West, though they are trying to snap a three-game losing streak. While Smith has recently progressed to hitting in the cage and throwing, he remains on the injured list with Dalton Rushing currently handling the primary catching duties.

Before the injury, Smith was slashing .249/.343/.382 with six home runs across 52 games, which is a slight step back from his elite 2025 campaign where he hit .293. Our models remain optimistic about his return to form, projecting a .263 average and 20 home runs for the season. Given his career track record of high-end production for the position, his current dip in power is likely tied to the neck discomfort rather than a true talent regression.

The Dodgers conclude their week with a three-game road series against the Yankees. While Smith is making strides in his rehab, he has not yet been activated and is unlikely to return for these remaining matchups. Fantasy managers should monitor his progress for a potential return in late July but must keep him on the bench or in an IL spot for now. Sit.
