Moises Ballesteros | Fantasy Outlook

High-upside prospect Moises Ballesteros waits for an opening in the Cubs' lineup

Ballesteros has been largely absent from the box score recently, appearing in just one game over the last 30 days for a second-place Cubs team that currently holds a 54-42 record. Despite his status as a graduated top prospect with elite bat control, he is currently sitting behind Carson Kelly and Miguel Amaya on the depth chart. The team's focus on a Wild Card push has limited the 22-year-old's opportunities to showcase the raw power that produced six home runs earlier this year.

Looking under the hood, his current .231 batting average is a significant dip from our projected .261 mark and his impressive .283 average from the 2025 season. Our models suggest his .363 on-base percentage potential remains a major asset, but he needs consistent reps to iron out the league's adjustments to his swing. While the raw power and 10-homer projection are legitimate for a catcher, the lack of volume makes him a difficult hold in shallow redraft leagues.

Chicago enters a three-game weekend set at home against the Twins, but the outlook for Ballesteros is dim given his recent inactivity. With only three games remaining this week and no clear path to a starting role over the weekend, he is unlikely to reach our weekly projection of roughly seven at-bats. Unless an injury occurs to the primary catching duo, he cannot be trusted in active fantasy lineups. Sit.
