Back tightness and recent struggles make Landen Roupp a risky option this week

The fourth-place Giants are looking for stability, but Landen Roupp has run into trouble lately, posting a 6.97 ERA and 1.90 WHIP over his last three starts. His struggles coincide with recent back tightness reported after his June 1st outing, which clearly sapped his effectiveness. He remains a key mid-rotation staple in San Francisco's starting staff, but his health is a major concern.

While his recent 5.22 ERA over the last 30 days is discouraging, our models project him to level out near his career baselines with a 4.09 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over 121 innings. Roupp's 10.22 K/9 this season shows his strikeout stuff is still there, meaning a return to health should spark a quick rebound to his reliable, mid-rotation form.

Roupp is scheduled for just one start this week on June 12th at home against the Cubs. It is a highly demanding matchup, as he will square off against Ben Brown, who boasts an elite 1.74 ERA and 0.88 WHIP.
