Daniel Lynch IV is excelling in a high-leverage setup role for Kansas City

Lynch has been nearly untouchable lately, yielding zero earned runs and a microscopic 0.24 WHIP over his last four appearances spanning 4.1 innings. He is currently the primary setup man for a fifth-place Royals team that sits at 38-59 and is looking to snap a five-game losing streak. With multiple arms like Cole Ragans and James McArthur on the 60-day injured list, Lynch’s stability in the eighth inning has become essential for the Kansas City bullpen.

His current 2.65 ERA and 1.06 WHIP are significantly outperforming our season projections of 4.27 and 1.34, respectively. While his 1.33 strikeout-to-walk ratio over the last 30 days is a bit concerning, his season-long mark of 2.75 suggests he can maintain a solid floor. Unless he starts seeing save chances over Lucas Erceg, his fantasy ceiling remains capped as a holds specialist, but his recent form makes him an elite asset in that category.

Kansas City finishes the week with a three-game home series against the Padres. Lynch should be available for high-leverage work in support of starters Seth Lugo and Noah Cameron. San Diego will counter with Michael King and a struggling Griffin Canning, who carries a 6.75 ERA, potentially creating several close-game scenarios for the Royals' bullpen.
