Jacob Lopez's severe ratio struggles make him an easy sit in all formats

Jacob Lopez slots in as a back-end starter for the third-place Athletics, who currently hold a 33-35 record. Despite injuries to fellow starters Luis Severino and Aaron Civale keeping his rotation spot relatively secure, Lopez has been highly volatile, posting a catastrophic 31.50 ERA and 3.50 WHIP over his lone appearance in the last 14 days.

While our models project a much better rest-of-season 4.29 ERA and 1.29 WHIP, his actual 2026 numbers (7.01 ERA, 1.89 WHIP) showcase a severe regression in control compared to his promising 2025 campaign. Walking 33 batters in just 48.8 innings this year indicates deep mechanical issues that suggest his blowups are no fluke.

The Athletics finish out this week's schedule with a home series against the Rockies, but Lopez is not projected to take the mound for any of those remaining matchups. Given his toxic recent ratios and lack of scheduled starts for the rest of the week, fantasy managers should look elsewhere. Verdict: Sit.
