Alec Burleson looks to regain his early-season form following a recent cooling period at the plate

Burleson has experienced a dip in contact recently, batting just .160 over his last eight games, though he did connect for a home run and four RBIs in that span. He remains the everyday first baseman for a third-place Cardinals squad that currently holds a 50-45 record and is fighting to stay in the postseason hunt. While team injuries to depth pieces like Ramon Urias have limited bench flexibility, Burleson's role as the primary starter at the corner is entirely secure.

Despite the recent slump, Burleson's season-long line of .273 with 15 home runs is already on the verge of eclipsing our full-season projection of 16 homers. His current .807 OPS suggests that his power gains this year are legitimate compared to his 2024 and 2025 career marks, though his 14-day average of .229 indicates some natural regression toward his projected .268 baseline. He continues to provide a high floor for fantasy managers needing steady run production.

The Cardinals have a very light schedule this week due to the mid-summer break, with only three games on the slate starting July 17. St. Louis travels to Arizona for a three-game weekend set where Burleson is projected to average nearly an RBI per game. While the lack of volume limits his ceiling in total-points leagues, his status as a core run-producer in the middle of the lineup makes him difficult to bench even in a shortened week. Start.
