Joshua Baez dominates Triple-A with elite power while awaiting Cardinals promotion
Baez has been the talk of the minor leagues, recently launching a 473-foot grand slam for Triple-A Memphis that set a new Statcast-era record for the organization. He currently leads the International League with 29 home runs and has been on a historic tear, including a four-homer game and multiple multi-homer performances over the last two months. Despite this dominance, he remains off the active roster for a fourth-place Cardinals team that currently holds a 51-47 record and sits in the heart of the Wild Card race.
Although he has no major league track record to compare against our projections, the raw tools suggest a legitimate 35-homer ceiling once he reaches the big leagues. His exit velocities frequently exceed 110 mph, signaling that his elite power should translate even against top-tier pitching. However, until the Cardinals officially add him to the major league roster to provide relief for an outfield led by Jordan Walker and Lars Nootbaar, his fantasy impact remains theoretical and is best suited for stash status in dynasty formats.
The Cardinals have seven games on the slate this week, including a road series against the Angels and home sets against Arizona and Cincinnati. St. Louis is scheduled to face several beatable arms, including Reid Detmers and his 4.33 ERA, as well as Rhett Lowder, who enters with a 5.94 ERA and a 1.69 WHIP. While these matchups are incredibly favorable for hitters, fantasy managers cannot capitalize on them until Baez is promoted from Memphis. Until a roster move is made, he must remain on your bench.
