Andre Pallante remains a rotation fixture for St. Louis despite a rocky stretch of efficiency

Pallante has struggled over his last two turns, posting a 5.29 ERA and a bloated 1.57 WHIP across 10.2 innings. While he helped propel the third-place Cardinals to a 50-45 record earlier this summer, his recent 10.80 ERA over the last week highlights a sudden lack of command. He remains the number four starter in the rotation, though he must contend with battery issues as opponents have recently exploited his catching tandem on the basepaths, notably stealing 50 consecutive bases against Ivan Herrera.

Comparing his current 4.14 ERA to our season projection of 4.31 suggests Pallante is performing right in line with expectations as a back-end starter. However, his low 6.62 K/9 rate provides a very thin margin for error; when he isn't inducing ground balls, his WHIP tends to spike toward his career-worst levels. Fantasy managers should expect continued volatility, as his pitch-to-contact profile relies heavily on a Cardinals defense that is currently missing infield depth with Ramon Urias on the 60-day injured list.

The Cardinals travel to Arizona for a three-game weekend set against the second-place Diamondbacks. While Pallante is not scheduled for two starts this week, his next expected appearance in the desert comes against a disciplined Arizona lineup that can punish his season-long 1.30 WHIP. Given his recent struggle to miss bats and the high ERA over his last 14 days, he is a risky play in a hitter-friendly environment and should be avoided in most formats. Sit.
