Ryan Helsley remains on injured list with elbow issue as Orioles exercise caution

Helsley remains sidelined on the 60-day injured list due to right elbow inflammation, having logged zero appearances over the past month after being shut down in July. While he threw off a mound in late August, the fifth-place Orioles (72-78) are taking a deliberate approach with their flame-throwing closer amid a two-game skid. In his absence, Rico Garcia has been anchoring the ninth inning for Baltimore.

When healthy earlier this season, Helsley secured eight saves with 21 strikeouts over 14.4 innings, but a 4.38 ERA and elevated 1.53 WHIP revealed his underlying mechanical and physical issues. That production lags far behind his dominant past campaigns and our preseason projection of 25 saves with a 3.52 ERA. Any hope of late-season value hinges strictly on whether his elbow can handle maximum velocity again.

Baltimore embarks on a six-game slate against the Mets and Brewers this week, but Helsley is still building arm strength and has not been cleared for game action. Without a rehab assignment underway, there is no timetable for him to impact fantasy lineups over the next seven days. Leave him parked on your bench or injured reserve. Sit.
