Michael Lorenzen remains a volatile fantasy option despite slight recent improvements

Lorenzen has endured a difficult stretch over the last 30 days, posting a 6.15 ERA and a 1.58 WHIP as he navigates the challenges of Coors Field. While he showed some stability in his most recent outing with a 3.46 ERA over 5.2 innings, he is pitching for a fifth-place Rockies squad that is currently 34-53 and struggling to stay competitive in the division. He remains a fixture in the rotation as the number three starter, especially with teammates like Jose Quintana on the 60-day injured list and Tomoyuki Sugano dealing with a finger injury.

Under the hood, our models expect significant regression toward a more respectable 5.10 ERA, which is much closer to his career baseline than his current season mark of 7.12. However, his strikeout numbers are a major concern; he has managed just one strikeout in his last seven days and only 66 through 78.4 innings this season.
