Top Hitters
Houston Astros’ Jose Altuve led the MLB with eight hits over the weekend. He singled four times, doubled three times and homered once. Altuve drove in three runs, scored six times, walked once and struck out twice.
Arizona Diamondbacks’ Eugenio Suarez, San Diego Padres’ Luis Arraez and Miami Marlins’ Otto Lopez all had seven weekend hits.
Suarez posted five singles and two home runs. He drove in three runs, scored six times and struck out on three occasions.
Arraez had singles for all seven of his weekend hits. He drove in a run, scored three times and did not walk or strike out.
Lopez had four singles, two doubles and a home run this weekend. He drove in three runs, scored three times and also was a strikeout victim three times.
Philadelphia Phillies’ Bryce Harper and Bryson Stott, Seattle Mariners’ Julio Rodriguez, Detroit Tigers’ Riley Greene all had six knocks.
Harper had four singles and two doubles over the weekend. He drove in three runs, scored twice and struck out once.
Stott posted five singles and a double. He drove in three, scored once and had a sacrifice flyout.
Rodriguez also had five singles and a double. He didn’t drive in a run, but did score three times. He stole a base and struck out on three occasions.
Greene doubled once and singled five times for his hits. He drove in three, scored twice, was hit by a pitch and struck out once.
Miami’s Connor Norby homered three times this weekend among his five total hits. He drove in seven runs, scored four times and struck out four times.
San Diego’s Manny Machado, Boston Red Sox’s Tyler O'Neill, Houston’s Yordan Alvarez, Los Angeles Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani, New York Mets’ Mark Vientos and San Francisco Giants’ Grant McCray all homered twice this weekend.
Machado added three singles to finish with five weekend hits. He drove in four, scored twice, walked twice, stole a base and also struck out twice.
O’Neill had just one more knock, a single. He drove in three, scored three runs, walked once and struck out three times.
Alvarez also singled twice and doubled once this weekend. He drove in seven runs, scored twice, walked once and struck out on two occasions.
Ohtani finished with four total hits, adding two singles. He drove in a pair, scored two runs and struck out three times.
Vientos singled for a third weekend hit. He drove in four, scored twice, walked two times and struck out on three occasions.
McCray hit two singles to go along with his two homers. He drove in five runs, scored twice and struck out four times.
Philadelphia’s Kyle Schwarber and Detroit’s Spencer Torkelson each scored four runs.
Schwarber had two singles, a double and a home run this weekend. He drove in four runs, walked twice, added a sac fly and struck out three times.
Torkelson had just one hit (a single) this weekend. He walked once as well. Torkelson struck out on five occasions.
Detroit’s Parker Meadows drove in five runs. He had two singles and two doubles for his four hits. He walked twice, added a sac fly and struck out on seven occasions.
Texas Rangers’ Nathaniel Lowe walked four times and posted three weekend hits. He had two singles and a home run. Lowe was also hit by a pitch, drove in a pair, scored twice and was a strikeout victim twice.
Miami’s Xavier Edwards had three stolen bases over the weekend. He singled twice and walked once to get on base. He drove in a run, scored three times, added a sac fly and struck out once.
Top Starting Pitchers
Seattle’s Logan Gilbert had the longest start of the weekend, but also was saddled with a loss. He worked eight innings, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk. Gilbert also hit a batter, while punching out 10.
Dodgers’ Jack Flaherty worked 7 1/3 innings and got a win. He allowed no runs on four hits and no walks, while striking out six.
Atlanta Braves’ Max Fried, Kansas City Royals’ Michael Wacha, Houston’s Framber Valdez, Minnesota Twins’ Bailey Ober and Miami’s Edward Cabrera all worked seven innings and allowed no earned runs.
Fried gave up an unearned run on five hits, a walk and a hit batter. He struck out eight batters and got a win.
Wacha also was a winner. He allowed four hits and a walk, while punching out seven.
Valdez got a win as well, allowing two hits and three walks along the way. He struck out seven batters.
Ober took a no decision despite striking out seven and allowing one hit. He walked none and hit one batter.
Cabrera earned the victory after surrendering three hits and one walk. He struck out six batters.
Milwaukee Brewers’ Tobias Myers struck out 11 batters over six innings on his way to a win. He allowed a run on four hits and one walk.
Milwaukee’s Frankie Montas struck out 10, but took the loss after allowing three runs on two hits and three walks. Montas worked six innings.
St. Louis Cardinals’ Kyle Gibson struck out nine over 6 2/3 scoreless innings. He allowed three hits and three walks.
Atlanta’s Chris Sale struck out seven over six scoreless frames. He gave up two hits, a walk and two hit batters. Sale didn’t earn a decision.
New York Yankees’ Gerrit Cole took a loss after allowing two unearned runs over six innings. He allowed three hits and one walk, while striking out seven.
Washington Nationals’ DJ Herz worked five hitless innings and got a win. He walked three batters and struck out five.
Cincinnati Reds’ Jakob Junis tossed five scoreless innings but didn’t earn a decision. He gave up one hit and one walk, while striking out five.
Yankees’ Luis Gil got a win after striking out seven over six scoreless innings. He allowed a hit and two walks.
Top Relief Pitchers
Texas’ Kirby Yates, Washington’s Kyle Finnegan, Colorado Rockies’ Tyler Kinley, Kansas City’s Lucas Erceg and San Francisco’s Ryan Walker all earned two saves over the weekend.
Yates allowed a hit over two innings. He struck out a batter along the way.
Finnegan allowed a run on three hits and a walk in his two innings. He struck out two batters.
Kinley walked a batter, but only faced six over his two innings. He struck out one.
Erceg worked around a hit in his two innings. He struck out two batters in his outings.
Walker worked 2 2/3 innings over the weekend. He allowed one hit, and did not record a strikeout.
Yankees’ Nestor Cortes worked 4 1/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen and got a win. He allowed no hits and just one walk, while striking out three.
Detroit’s Ty Madden tossed five innings out of the pen and also got a victory. He allowed a run on five hits, one walk and a hit batter. Madden struck out seven.
Mets’ Reed Garrett worked 2 2/3 perfect innings over two weekend outings. He struck out six batters.
