A 14-game slate of MLB action took place on Tuesday, August 27, so there’s plenty of top performances to discuss.

Top Starting Pitchers

Philadelphia Phillies’ Aaron Nola had the longest start of the night, tossing seven shutout innings. He allowed four hits and one walk, while striking out six batters. Nola earned the win as well.

Washington Nationals’ Patrick Corbin fired six scoreless innings and got a win. He allowed two hits and two walks, while striking out six.

Seattle Mariners’ Logan Gilbert took a no decision despite tossing six scoreless frames. He allowed four hits, while striking out 10 and walking none.

Tampa Bay Rays’ Jeffrey Springs worked five scoreless innings, but didn’t get a decision. He allowed two hits and one walk, while punching out nine.

Oakland Athletics’ Mitch Spence allowed a run on five hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out three along the way.

Chicago Cubs’ Justin Steele was a winner after allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over five frames. He struck out six batters.

Cleveland Guardians’ Gavin Williams took a loss despite only allowing two runs over five innings. He gave up three hits and two walks, while striking out six.

Detroit Tigers’ Brant Hurter got a win after working the first five innings. He allowed two runs on four hits and two walks, while striking out four.

New York Mets’ Sean Manaea led the MLB with 11 strikeouts on the night. He got a win after allowing three runs on four hits and no walks over 6 2/3 innings.

Top Relief Pitchers

Washington’s Kyle Finnegan, San Diego Padres’ Tanner Scott, Baltimore Orioles’ Seranthony Dominguez, Detroit’s Jason Foley, Miami Marlins’ Calvin Faucher, San Francisco Giants’ Ryan Walker, Tampa Bay’s Manuel Rodriguez and Oakland’s Mason Miller all earned saves.

Finnegan allowed a run on three hits over his 1 1/3 innings.

Scott retired the three batters he faced on the night.

Dominguez allowed a hit and a walk, but had a strikeout to work a scoreless frame.

Foley retired the only batter he faced to pick up his save.

Faucher struck out all three batters he faced in the ninth inning to tally the most impressive save of the evening.

Walker had a strikeout in his inning of work. He worked around one hit.

Rodriguez also worked around a hit, getting one strikeout to escape unscathed.

Miller allowed two runs on four hits, but struck out a pair to eventually lock up the win for his team.

Kansas City Royals’ James McArthur got a win out of the pen after working two scoreless innings. He retired all six batters he faced, striking out four of them.

San Diego’s Jason Adam earned a hold after striking out three of the four batters he faced. He allowed a hit in his inning of work.

Cincinnati Reds’ Buck Farmer got four outs, with three of them being strikeouts. He allowed a hit and a walk.

Toronto Blue Jays’ Erik Swanson struck out all three batters he faced. Los Angeles Angels’ Brock Burke accomplished the same feat.

Toronto’s Tommy Nance struck out three batters over two scoreless innings. He allowed one hit.

Pittsburgh Pirates’ Carmen Mlodzinski tossed two scoreless innings, working around two hits. He struck out two batters.

Arizona Diamondbacks’ Jordan Montgomery worked 4 1/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. He allowed five hits and a walk, while striking out two batters and also plunking one with a pitch.

Detroit’s Brenan Hanifee earned a hold after working 2 2/3 scoreless frames. He retired all eight batters he faced, striking out two of them.

Top Hitters

Pittsburgh’s Oneil Cruz led the league with four hits. He singled three times and doubled once. Cruz drove in two runs, stole a base and also had a sacrifice fly.

St. Louis Cardinals’ Paul Goldschmidt, Mets’ Brandon Nimmo, San Francisco’s Matt Chapman, Atlanta Braves’ Ramon Laureano, Minnesota Twins’ Willi Castro and Trevor Larnach, Cincinnati’s Tyler Stephenson, San Diego’s Luis Arraez, Colorado Rockies’ Ezequiel Tovar, Oakland’s Max Schuemann and Toronto’s Will Wagner all had three knocks.

Goldschmidt had two singles and a home run. He drove in two runs, scored once and also walked.

Nimmo had two singles and a double for his hits. He also scored a run.

Chapman singled twice and also popped a homer. He drove in a run, scored twice and also struck out once. 

Laureano singled two times and doubled once. He drove in a pair, scored a run and stole a base.

Castro had two singles and a double as well. He also walked once, scored two runs and struck out once.

Stephenson had singles for his three knocks. He walked once, scored three runs and also was a strikeout victim.

Arraez singled three times, drove in a run and scored once. He also stole a base.

Larnach had two singles and a double. He drove in three runs, scored once and also was a strikeout victim.

Tovar hit two homers and a double. He drove in four runs, scored twice, added a sacrifice fly and also struck out once.

Schuemann had a single, double and home run on the night. He drove in two runs and scored once.

Wagner hit two doubles and a home run for the Blue Jays. He had an RBI and one run scored.

Mets’ J.D. Martinez had two singles, a walk and two runs scored. He was also a strikeout victim.

Colorado’s Charlie Blackmon had a single and a homer on his way to scoring two runs. He also walked, drove in a run and struck out once.

Atlanta’s Matt Olson scored twice after reaching on a single and double. He drove in a run and struck out once.

Cubs’ Dansby Swanson drove in three runs on a home run. He also walked twice and scored a second run.

Philadelphia’s Austin Hays had a single, double and two runs scored. He also struck out once. 

Miami’s Griffin Conine hit a double and triple and also walked once. He scored two runs.

Washington’s Jose Tena had a single and a homer on the night. He drove in a run and scored twice.

Miami’s Kyle Stowers and Connor Norby also scored two runs each. Stowers had a triple and home run, along with an RBI and two strikeouts. Norby hit a double and scored twice.

Cubs’ Seiya Suzuki had a single and a homer, while also walking twice. He scored two runs for his team.

Miami’s Jesus Sanchez had a double, home run and four RBIs. He also walked once and scored a run.

Philadelphia’s Nick Castellanos drove in three runs on a home run. He scored once and also struck out once.

Detroit’s Kerry Carpenter drove in three runs on a single and a home run. He scored once and struck out twice.

Cincinnati’s Spencer Steer singled once and drew three walks. He drove in a run as well.

Seattle’s Victor Robles and Kansas City’s Maikel Garcia had two stolen bases each.

Robles had two singles and a run scored. Garcia had a single, walk, RBI and run scored.
