Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: Bohm, Baez Among Top Hitter Adds

These four hitters are trending up and could be worth adding to your fantasy baseball roster.

Let's continue looking at fantasy baseball waiver wire/streaming options by discussing some hitting options.

Here is the pitcher waiver wire/streaming article for Monday. Check back later for more waiver wire/streaming options in the weekly projections article!

Fantasy baseball waiver wire options can be found all season on FantasySP! The Fantasy Sports Assistant now can answer questions you have after doing team breakdowns or waiver wire analysis!

Alec Bohm - Philadelphia Phillies

Bohm sits at 35.62% rostered at this moment. He was at 30.58% six days ago.

He had a five-hit game on Saturday and now is on a five-game hitting streak. Over that streak, Bohm has 11 hits, including four doubles and a homer. He also has five RBIs and runs scored, a walk and three strikeouts.

He's up to a .242 average and .300 on-base percentage over 120 games and 487 plate appearances this season. Bohm has 21 doubles and 14 home runs among his 107 total hits. He also has tallied 68 RBIs, 44 runs scored, 32 walks, two stolen bases and 69 strikeouts.

He was the team's primary third baseman to open the season, but is now playing first base, so being eligible at both positions is a fantasy boost for him. The bigger fantasy boost is his better hitting of late, and that makes him worth adding/utilizing in more leagues. Give him more looks in deeper leagues, and if he keeps delivering, he could work back into some standard leagues.

Lawrence Butler and Zack Gelof - Athletics

Butler is at 27.4% today, after being at 23.08% back on August 10. Gelof is way up to 64.84%, after sitting at 40.91% on August 10.

Butler has been on a home run binge of late. He has five hits over the past five games, and four of the hits are homers. Butler has six RBIs, four runs scored and a walk in that short span.

He's had a disappointing season overall, and sits with just a .208 average and .299 OBP over 116 games and 376 plate appearances. Butler has 13 doubles, 11 home runs and a triple among his 69 total hits, plus 36 RBIs, 47 runs scored, 42 walks, nine stolen bases and 95 strikeouts.

The outfielder has found some power of late, so he's rising as a fantasy asset. He's worth trying in more deeper leagues, but unless the production keeps coming, I wouldn't add Butler in standard leagues- there's just better long-term options out there in standard leagues.

Gelof's rise of late coincides with his return from the injured list. Since August 10, he has seven hits, five RBIs, seven runs scored, three walks and five strikeouts. Gelof has three home runs and a double among the hits.

He has been good when healthy this season, and owns a .276 average and .332 OBP over 73 games and 273 plate appearances. Gelof has 14 home runs, 12 doubles and a triple among his 69 total hits. He also has tallied 34 RBIs, 48 runs scored, 17 walks, eight stolen bases and 67 strikeouts.

Gelof has played all over the field, so his fantasy value is higher than you'd think, and it keeps him in the lineup daily. I think Gelof should be rostered/utilized in most deep leagues right now, and I'd be considering him in standard leagues too. He's producing enough to own in any fantasy league, especially with position versatility on his side.

Joshua Baez - St. Louis Cardinals

Baez is already up to 81.28% rostered in fantasy leagues. He's risen 16.44% today, and has been the hottest waiver wire pickup after a sensational debut.

In his MLB debut on Saturday, all Baez did was pop three home runs across his first three at-bats. He had five RBIs in that contest. On Sunday, things didn't go as well, as he went 0-for-5, with three strikeouts.

Baez had some decent expectations as a top-100 prospect. He's known for his pop, but also has a strikeout problem. Both things showed up already in his short MLB career.

Baez was a big fantasy riser after the three-homer game, but that's not going to happen often. Hopefully, the three-strikeout and no-hit games aren't super repetitive either, otherwise he will be a frustrating fantasy hitter to own.

For now, I like the idea of adding Baez if he's available in your league. After a week or so of MLB action, we should have a better idea what kind of player he is. At that time, we can determine exactly how many leagues to roster him in.
