Fantasy Baseball Closer Report: National League Bullpen Updates

A team-by-team look at NL closer roles, job security, and emerging save options.

We just went over closer situations for all American League teams, and now are going to go over situations across the National League.

Here is the last NL update we did. We will go in order of team records so far.

Explore the best in-season tool to manage lineup/start decisions including waiver pickups, projections, trade suggestions, trade value charts, rest of season rankings, power rankings, and tons more with Fantasy Assistant.

Dodgers

Edwin Diaz is the team's closer, but hasn't pitched since blowing a save a week ago. The team is worried about reduced velocity, and have held him from a couple save chances since.

Alex Vesia has earned two saves this week, so he appears to be the No. 2 option for saves, ahead of Tanner Scott, last year's primary closer.

Those rostering Diaz should be a bit worried about his absence this week. Hopefully it doesn't turn into something bigger, but Vesia could be worth scooping up in some deeper leagues, just in case he sticks as the closer, or Diaz is out for a while.

Padres

Mason Miller is the team's go-to closer, and earned two more saves this week. Jason Adam earned a save on Saturday, but Miller will get every opportunity unless he's unavailable, or injured.

Miller is the best fantasy reliever in the game, and that could stick, even if Diaz comes back for LA.

Braves

Raisel Iglesias is the Atlanta closer. He picked up saves on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

Robert Suarez is likely next in line for saves, but for now, Iglesias has the closer role locked down. If Atlanta keeps winning, Iglesias could be a high-end fantasy reliever in 2026.

Diamondbacks

Paul Sewald earned two saves for Arizona this week, while Juan Morillo earned one. Morillo earned his in extra innings, so the job still belongs to Sewald.

Arizona is winning enough to support Sewald, and his own percentage continues to grow as he's pitching well and locking down wins.

Pirates

Dennis Santana earned the only save for Pittsburgh over the past week. He also blew a save and took a loss.

Gregory Soto earned two holds. He's likely the next in line for saves.

This is a situation to keep watching, as I don't think Santana is locked into the closer role right now.

Reds

Emilio Pagan is the Reds' closer, and he earned one save over two appearances this week. He's got the closer role locked down, so hopefully more save chances present themself soon.

Tony Santillan or Graham Ashcraft could be next in line for saves if Pagan is ever unavailable or injured.

Brewers

Things are messy in Milwaukee after Megill blew a couple saves in a row. He pitched in the eighth inning in his last appearance.

Abner Uribe is likely the new closer, at least for the time being. He blew a save earlier in the week, then got a hold and a save on back-to-back days. With Uribe unavailable, Angel Zerpa earned the team's save on Thursday.

I like Uribe the best of the trio right now. It's an evolving situation, so keep tabs on the save chances in Milwaukee.

Cardinals

Riley O'Brien has earned himself the closer role in St. Louis. He got a win and a save on back-to-back days earlier this week. O'Brien's fantasy ownership should keep rising as long as he's pitching well.

JoJo Romero and Ryne Stanek are the setup men, and next in line for saves if O'Brien ever is unavailable or injured. It's O'Brien's job to lose right now.

Cubs

Daniel Palencia is the Cubs' closer, but didn't earn a save over the past week. He did get a win, and should get save chances going forward.

Chicago just hasn't won enough to make him a great fantasy asset so far. His own percentage will fluctuate as the Cubs win/lose.

Marlins

Pete Fairbanks is a guy I discussed in today's drop story. He's struggled in two April appearances, including one this week.

He's still likely the closer, but between his struggles and Miami not winning a ton of late, Fairbanks' fantasy value/ownership is falling.

Keep tabs on things, but Fairbanks is trending toward being a better deep-league asset, and only owned in a lot of standard leagues when the Marlins are hot.

Nationals

Things are up in the air in Washington still. Clayton Beeter earned a save on Saturday, then a hold on Tuesday, then blew a lead but got a win on Thursday. Gus Varland earned saves on Sunday and Tuesday, but got a hold on Thursday.

This situation is up in the air, so it's something to keep tabs on. Cionel Perez could be another option for saves if Beeter or Varland aren't consistent enough, but Washington might not win enough to make even one closer anything more than a deep-league asset.

Phillies

Jhoan Duran is the team's closer. He earned one save this week, and that was way back on Saturday.

Brad Keller and Orion Kerkering are options if Duran is ever unavailable or injured, but Duran is in no danger of losing the closer role.

Giants

Ryan Walker was the presumed closer, but now Erik Miller, Caleb Kilian and Keaton Winn are also options in a messy committee.

Walker pitched three times since last Saturday, and only earned a hold. Miller got the save that day, with Winn also earning a hold.

This is another situation to watch daily, as things can change quickly.

Mets

Devin Williams is the Mets' closer, but he's pitched just once since Saturday, and didn't earn a decision that day. The Mets need to start winning more to help Williams be a top-end fantasy reliever again.

Luke Weaver and Brooks Raley appear to be the setup men, and would be next in line for saves if Williams is ever unavailable or injured.

Rockies

Victor Vodnik earned a save for Colorado on Thursday. Jimmy Herget and Jaden Hill earned holds that day.

Vodnik appears like the go-to closer, but Colorado likely isn't going to win enough to support him outside of deeper leagues. He's worth tracking regardless.
