Tony Santillan | Fantasy Outlook

Tony Santillan currently sidelined on the injured list with a left oblique strain

Tony Santillan has logged no recent games on the field as he recovers from a left oblique strain that landed him on the 15-day injured list. The Reds currently sit fifth in the National League Central division with a 49-55 record, navigating a busy injury report that also features teammate Nick Lodolo on the shelf. Santillan had appeared in 34 games prior to the injury, picking up five saves and 11 holds out of the bullpen.

Before his absence, Santillan was tracking close to our season projection of a 4.24 ERA and 55 strikeouts over 70 innings of relief work. His 5.61 ERA through late June represented a slight regression from his stellar 2.83 mark last season, but his strikeout rate remained respectable at over nine batters per nine innings. While his ratio numbers had climbed to a 1.49 WHIP, his baseline history suggests he can still provide valuable strikeouts and holds once healthy.

The Reds have a packed seven-game slate ahead, but Santillan will play no part in it while continuing his recovery from the oblique injury. With Emilio Pagán handling closing duties and other arms stepping into high-leverage roles, fantasy managers should keep Santillan stashed on the injured list or safely on the bench. Drop.
