Ranking Wednesday's Fantasy Baseball Starting Pitchers: Nick Lodolo, Andrey Heaney and More
Morgan ranks every fantasy starting pitcher for Wednesday, June 18.
I wanted to try something new today and rank every MLB starting pitcher from a fantasy baseball perspective for tonight.
I'll be using probable pitchers from the MLB's site and give a little writeup for all 30 pitchers in action.

No. 1 - Tarik Skubal (vs. Pirates)
Skubal is the top fantasy pitcher in the game and gets one of the most favorable matchups available. He's going to star tonight and is the most logical choice for the No. 1 spot.
No. 2 - Garrett Crochet (at Mariners)
Crochet gets the No. 2 spot in his pretty average matchup against Seattle. You have to trust your fantasy stars to get the job done, and Crochet is indeed a fantasy star.
No. 3 - Kris Bubic (at Rangers)
Bubic has been another one of the top fantasy arms this season and has a pretty good matchup. He's got a chance to hang with the top fantasy arms tonight, and maybe even outscore everyone else too.
No. 4 - Chris Sale (vs. Mets)
Sale is another elite fantasy option, but his matchup is a bit tougher, so he falls to No. 4 for me. You still should have no issues starting Sale tonight, because he can shut down the best of lineups.
No. 5 - Sonny Gray (at White Sox)
Gray has a chance to shine in a really favorable matchup tonight. If not for so many great fantasy pitchers being on the bump tonight, Gray would rank a lot higher.
No. 6 - Framber Valdez (at Athletics)
Valdez is also a pretty trustworthy fantasy option, but the matchup isn't elite. Valdez still should deliver a really strong fantasy score tonight, because that's just what he often does.
No. 7 - Nick Lodolo (vs. Twins)
Lodolo has been sneakily good this season, and in an average-or-so matchup, I like him tonight. He's got a reasonable DFS price tag as well, so he's going to likely be a popular option tonight.
No. 8 - Jameson Taillon (vs. Brewers)
Taillon has really turned in a good fantasy season, even though he's kind of flown under the radar. The Brewers are a slightly above-average matchup, so I think Taillon could deliver another good fantasy showing.
No. 9 - Ranger Suarez (at Marlins)
Suarez gets a super favorable matchup against the Marlins and has pitched pretty well this season. I think he's got a chance to finish a lot higher than I have him ranked, but this seemed like the best spot to put him.
No. 10 - Luis Castillo (vs. Red Sox)
Castillo has been pretty good this season, and he gets a fairly average matchup tonight. He's another who could outproduce my ranking by a good amount, but this spot felt right for Castillo.
No. 11 - Jacob Misiorowski (at Cubs)
Misiorowski was a star in his MLB debut last week, and now he gets a tougher challenge against Chicago. The matchup is tough, but his upside could be elite, so I couldn't drop him any lower.
No. 12 - Andrew Heaney (at Tigers)
The Tigers might be one of the top teams in baseball, but their offense is so-so. Heaney has pitched pretty well most of the season, so I'm willing to roll with him in the 12th spot.
No. 13 - Taj Bradley (vs. Orioles)
Bradley hasn't been that great this season, but the Orioles' offense has struggled more often than not. I trust him over some of the remaining pitchers, so I'm willing to trust the matchup and put Bradley 13th.
No. 14 - Ryan Yarbrough (vs. Angels)
Yarbrough has turned in a pretty good season so far, and has been a good starter for the Yankees. The matchup is right for him to be an average fantasy pitcher, or better.
No. 15 - Eduardo Rodriguez (at Blue Jays)
Rodriguez hasn't been the best this season, but the matchup is solid enough to rank him here. Remember, these are just my opinions on these guys - you may view them quite differently.
No. 16 - Trevor Rogers (at Rays)
Rogers has made one start this season, and looked really good in it. I want to rank him higher, but just feel most comfortable with him in the No. 16 slot.
No. 17 - Paul Blackburn (at Braves)
Blackburn has only made one start this season, otherwise he'd probably rank higher than this. Atlanta's offense has been a bit better of late, but has still struggled enough overall to test Blackburn out here.
No. 18 - Patrick Corbin (vs. Royals)
It's wild to look at Corbin's numbers this season compared to what he did over the past several years. The matchup tonight is average, and him having to face Bubic knocks him down a few pegs as well.
No. 19 - Justin Verlander (vs. Guardians)
The veteran righty returns to the hill for an OK matchup against Cleveland. He's more trustworthy because he's a veteran, but fresh off the injured list, I can't put him any higher.
No. 20 - Bailey Ober (at Reds)
I love this matchup, but Ober hasn't pitched consistently enough to rank any higher. It doesn't help that Ober has really struggled of late.
No. 21 - Logan Allen (at Giants)
Allen has been so-so this season, but this is a favorable matchup on paper. I think San Fran is going to be a formidable offense after the addition of Rafael Devers in due time, and that's part of the reason why Allen ranks lower tonight.
No. 22 - Luis Severino (vs. Astros)
Severino can eat innings, but he doesn't strike out many batters and his ERA is nearly 4.50. The matchup isn't the best either, so I'm not a huge fan of Severino tonight.
No. 23 - Emmet Sheehan (vs. Padres)
Sheehan will make his season debut tonight, and not so luckily for him, he gets the formidable Padres' lineup. He's got a great Dodgers' team backing him up, but all signs point to Sheehan struggling a bit, at least, in this one.
No. 24 - Stephen Kolek (at Dodgers)
On the other end of the matchup, Kolek will take on the top-end Dodgers' offense. Kolek has pitched well enough to rank where he does, but I'm always trying to avoid the LA offense, and tonight is no different.
No. 25 - Mitchell Parker (vs. Rockies)
This is a super favorable matchup, but based on what we've seen from Parker this season, and in his last start against a weak Marlins' lineup, I really don't like the idea of starting him tonight. As I said in the waiver wire pitcher article today, I think he's only worth starting in deeper leagues.
No. 26 - Eric Lauer (vs. Diamondbacks)
Lauer has a 2.37 ERA so far this season, but the D-Backs are another offense I try to stay away from. It just doesn't seem wise to try Lauer in this matchup.
No. 27 - Sean Burke (vs. Cardinals)
The matchup against the Cardinals is fine, but Burke has a 4.71 ERA this season. Him facing Gray also works against him tonight.
No. 28 - Adam Mazur (vs. Phillies)
Mazur will make his season debut against a top-end Phillies' offense. They are another offense to avoid, and Mazur is only a fantasy option in the deepest of leagues.
No. 29 - Jack Kochanowicz (at Yankees)
This is another terrible matchup for a fantasy pitcher. The Yankees have slowed down of late, but I'm still avoiding this matchup as best I can.
No. 30 - German Marquez (at Nationals)
This matchup is pretty favorable, but Marquez is not a trustworthy fantasy arm this season. He sports a 6.62 ERA going into tonight - enough said.
