Stephen Kolek remains sidelined for the season following elbow surgery

Kolek has not appeared in a game for over two months, remaining on the 60-day injured list after suffering a right flexor strain that required season-ending Tommy John surgery. He was removed from the active rotation back in July, leaving the fifth-place Royals, who sit at 67-89 following a four-game losing streak, to patch together their pitching staff. There are no recent stats to evaluate as he continues his long rehabilitation process.

Before going down, the right-hander showed flashes of stability across 10 outings, recording a 4.62 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 34 strikeouts over 52.6 innings, highlighted by a dominant complete-game shutout against Seattle in May. While our baseline models previously anticipated serviceable mid-rotation innings, the major elbow injury effectively closes the book on his 2026 campaign and wipes out any rest-of-season fantasy value.

Kansas City remains home this week for six matchups against the White Sox and Guardians, turning to starters like Seth Lugo and Michael Wacha. Kolek has a projected zero-point week with no possibility of pitching now or through the rest of the schedule. Fantasy managers still holding him in redraft leagues should cut ties immediately.
