Lars Nootbaar is flourishing since his return from the IL, providing an elite OBP spark for the Cardinals
Since returning from the 60-day injured list, Nootbaar has been a spark for the third-place Cardinals (43-38). Over his last 14 days, he is slashing an impressive .361/.465/.472 with seven runs scored, reclaiming his role as the primary left fielder. His elite plate discipline is back in top form, helping him draw five walks in just the last seven days while consistently setting the table for the heart of the order.
While his .294 batting average is significantly higher than his career .245 mark, his underlying discipline suggests this production is mostly sustainable. Our models projected a .242 average, but his improved contact rates since returning from heel surgery suggest he could challenge his career-best numbers. Expect some slight average regression toward the .260s, but his elite OBP floor remains one of the safest assets in fantasy baseball.
St. Louis hits the road for six games this week, beginning with a difficult set in Atlanta against Martin Perez and his 3.00 ERA. However, the outlook brightens during a weekend series against the Cubs, specifically a matchup against David Peterson and his 6.06 ERA. Given his elite ability to reach base and his lock on a premium lineup spot, Nootbaar should be active in all fantasy formats. Start.
