Tarik Skubal re-establishes his ace status with a dominant performance against the Yankees
Skubal looked every bit the staff anchor in his most recent outing, carving through the Yankees for nine strikeouts and allowing just one hit over six frames. He has been exceptional since returning from elbow surgery, posting a 0.76 WHIP and 26 strikeouts over his last 17.2 innings. The fourth-place Tigers, currently 38-49 and riding a three-game win streak, have managed his workload carefully, but his elite velocity and command confirm he is fully back to pre-injury form.
While his 3.24 ERA on the season is a tick higher than his elite 2.21 mark from 2025, our models expect significant positive regression toward his 2.45 ERA projection. The underlying metrics are staggering, particularly a 13.60 K/9 rate over the last fortnight that mirrors his career-best dominance. Given that his walk rate remains nearly non-existent, his recent performances suggest the brief layoff did nothing to dampen his elite skill set.
After throwing 87 pitches on Tuesday, Skubal has completed his work for the current week and is not scheduled to face the Rangers. Looking ahead, he remains an absolute must-start regardless of the opponent given his current strikeout trajectory and trade rumors that could soon land him on a contending roster with better win support. He has firmly moved past his injury concerns and should be treated as a top-five fantasy starter. Start.
