Jake McCarthy is making history and carrying fantasy lineups with elite power-speed production

McCarthy has been spectacular for the Rockies, recently becoming the first player in nearly a century to hit multiple leadoff inside-the-park home runs in one season. Over the last 30 days, he has slashed .333/.377/.629 with six home runs and 26 RBI. With Brenton Doyle on the injured list, McCarthy is the undisputed everyday starter in the outfield for a Colorado squad that currently sits at 39-59.

His recent performance is far outstripping our models, which projected a .252 average and modest power. Instead, he is hitting .297 with a career-high 10 home runs through 83 games. While his 1.006 OPS over the last month hints at some looming regression to the mean, his elite speed is no fluke, as evidenced by 15 stolen bases and his historic hustle on the basepaths.

The Rockies return from the mid-July break for a three-game weekend set against the Reds at home. All three matchups are highly favorable, as McCarthy is scheduled to face Brady Singer (4.72 ERA), Rhett Lowder (5.23 ERA), and Hunter Greene (6.97 ERA). Even with a limited three-game schedule this week, his historic form and the porous Cincinnati pitching staff make him a must-play in all formats. Start.
