Slade Cecconi's fantasy value craters following a string of high-ratio outings

Cecconi has endured a miserable stretch over the last 14 days, posting a dismal 8.78 ERA and a 2.07 WHIP while allowing 15 hits in just over eight innings of work. He currently serves as a back-end starter for the first-place Guardians, who enter the second half with a 51-46 record and a four-game winning streak. Despite the team's success at the top of the AL Central, Cecconi has struggled to provide quality innings, and his role could be under pressure if his inability to limit baserunners continues.

The recent blow-ups have pushed his season ERA to 4.68, which is slightly worse than our projection of a 4.44 ERA for the remainder of the year. While his 3.90 ERA over the last 30 days suggests he is capable of finding a groove, his 1.46 season WHIP is a significant liability that indicates his current struggles are not entirely a fluke. Without a high strikeout rate to bail him out, he remains extremely vulnerable to the BABIP-related regression he is currently experiencing.

Looking at the schedule for the remainder of the week, Cecconi is not listed as a probable starter for the three-game home series against the Pirates. With Tanner Bibee and other members of the rotation handling the weekend duties, Cecconi has no immediate path to fantasy points for managers in weekly leagues. Given the lack of a scheduled start and his recent ratio-killing performances, he should remain on the bench or the waiver wire in all but the deepest formats. Sit.
