Jorge Polanco struggling to find footing upon return from injured list

Polanco has endured a brutal stretch at the plate over the last 14 days, batting just .048 with eight strikeouts and only one hit across 21 at-bats. The Mets sit fifth in the NL East with a 44-62 record and are attempting to navigate a depleted roster that currently features Juan Soto and Mark Vientos on the injured list. Polanco was recently activated from the injured list following a stint for left Achilles bursitis and continues to work primarily out of the designated hitter spot and as a depth option at first base.

His dreadful recent production represents a steep drop-off from his career baseline and season projections, though it heavily stems from shaking off months of rust due to persistent lower-body injuries. While our models expected a bounce-back from his early-season struggles, his current .149 batting average and .431 on-base plus slugging percentage across 25 games indicate severe regression rather than bad luck. Fantasy managers cannot rely on this kind of output until he demonstrates consistent mechanical health and timing at the plate.

The Mets face a demanding seven-game home slate this week, opening with three games against the Braves before hosting the Marlins for four. Polanco draws some tough matchups early on, facing hurlers like Martin Perez and a formidable Chris Sale with a 2.19 ERA and 1.05 WHIP, before getting softer looks later in the week against Miami arms like Janson Junk. With seven total games on the schedule, he has plenty of volume to turn things around, but his active slump keeps him out of fantasy consideration for now. Sit.
