Nate Lavender | Fantasy Outlook

Nate Lavender emerges as a high-leverage strikeout weapon for the Mets

Lavender continues to make an impressive first impression, striking out five across 2.2 hitless frames over his last two outings. With bullpen injuries sidelining Devin Williams and Daniel Duarte, the rookie southpaw has quickly climbed into high-leverage setup duties. He represents a rare bright spot for a fifth-place Mets team that currently sits at 69-83 amid a four-game losing streak.

Following an arduous recovery from Tommy John surgery, Lavender has compiled an exceptional 2.11 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 22 strikeouts in just 12.8 innings of work. Although a brief rough patch inflated his ERA over the past two weeks, his stellar 5.50 strikeout-to-walk ratio proves his bat-missing ability is completely genuine. Our models view his swing-and-miss arsenal as a sustainable weapon out of the bullpen rather than a flash in the pan.

Looking at the remainder of the week, New York hosts Philadelphia for four games, squaring off against tough rotation arms like Aaron Nola and Cristopher Sanchez. Lavender should see plenty of work to stabilize ratios and secure holds, but the lack of traditional save chances caps his mixed-league utility. Unless you are chasing holds or desperate for strikeout relief, keep him benched. Sit.
