Quarterbacks
Spencer Rattler, Tyler Shough and Jake Haener are all options at QB for New Orleans this season. None of them are near my top-10 dynasty QB list, and only Shough seems like a longshot to ever get there.
Shough was the team's second-round pick this offseason, and after the retirement of Derek Carr, his time in the spotlight could come much sooner than expected. Shough is 25 years old already, so his dynasty value is already lower than most rookie QBs.
He's worth stashing in some deeper dynasty leagues, but it seems like a longshot for him to ever become a top-end fantasy QB. Even if he is a deep-league starting option on a weekly basis, he'd be a decent pick and asset, and that makes him worth stashing in most dynasty setups.
Rattler had 1,317 yards, four touchdowns and five picks as a passer over seven games as a rookie. The 2024 fifth-round pick rushed for 146 yards and no scores.
He's 24 years old and could again be the top QB early in the season. Rattler looks like a placeholder for the eventual starting quarterback, whether that be Shough, or someone else. Rattler is worth rostering in some deeper setups, but I'm not expecting a monster career from him.
Haener was a fourth-round pick in 2023 and got into eight games last season. He had 226 yards, a touchdown and a pick as a passer and 22 rushing yards as well.
The 26-year-old looks like a career backup, and I'm not sure he's going to even be capable of holding onto that role. Don't roster him in any dynasty leagues.
Taysom Hill is a tight end in my eyes, but he's more of a swiss-army knife, and he plays QB occasionally. With the team's QB options for the season, I think he should be mentioned here.
The 34-year-old (almost 35) is on the physically unable to perform list to start the season. He had 465 total yards and six scores over just eight games last season, while adding more as a passer earlier in his career.
I wouldn't be surprised if he got some time at quarterback, but his torn ACL from last season is complicating matters. He's worth rostering by some contending dynasty teams, but should just be a depth option, not someone who you are looking for production from this season.
Running Backs
Alvin Kamara is the team's lead back. Kendre Miller, Cam Akers and Clyde Edwards-Helaire are some veteran depth options, and rookie Devin Neal adds some youth to the RB room.
None of those guys are on my top-10 list, and only Neal has a decent chance at it ever, I think.
Kamara is 30 years old, so that's why he won't make that list. When healthy, he's still capable of being a weekly fantasy asset. He's worth rostering in dynasty leagues yet, but should only be on contending teams, otherwise you should trade him for a future asset.
Miller has just 454 yards and two scores over his first two seasons, and he's been limited to just 14 games. A new coaching staff might finally give Miller a chance.
The 23-year-old is worth holding in some dynasty leagues yet, but I wouldn't be expecting a ton from him this season either. He's more of a lottery ticket. He could regain dynasty value with a healthy and big season, but I'm not holding my breath.
Edwards-Helaire appeared in just two games last season in New Orleans, and he's a likely cut candidate this season. He isn't likely to find a big role elsewhere either, and at 26 years old, his dynasty value is drying up quickly.
Akers has had some productive seasons in his past, but at 26 years old and joining his fourth team over six years, his value isn't high anymore. He'd only get involved offensively after several injuries, and he'd likely be buried on other team's depth charts too if he got a change of scenery.
Neal was a sixth-round pick this offseason, but at 21 years old (nearly 22), he's a sneaky good dynasty option. He could take over the backfield in New Orleans as early as next season. The team moving on from Kamara could open the opportunity for Neal.
Neal is worth rostering in most dynasty leagues. We'll see if he can take advantage of the opportunity and become a household name in short order.
Wide Receivers
Chris Olave leads the wideout room, while Brandin Cooks and Rashid Shaheed should start alongside him. Bub Means, Mason Tipton and Cedrick Wilson Jr. are among the top backups.
None of those guys are top-10 dynasty wideouts, and I don't anticipate anyone ever getting there.
Olave was a good/great asset going into last season, but after playing just eight games, regressing and now having an injury looming over him, his dynasty value is way down.
He's just 25 years old, so he's still worth a decent amount in dynasty leagues. Olave could be sold from non-contending teams, but I'd wait until he earned some value back before making that move. Olave is just a secondary option for contending teams to start the season, but could work back into an every-week starting role, so don't bail on him yet.
Shaheed only played in six games last season, so that halted his rising dynasty value. He's nearly 27 years old now, and is a better secondary option in real life and for fantasy.
He should probably only be rostered on contending dynasty squads, but rebuilding teams should let him build up some value before trading him away.
Cooks appeared in 10 games with Dallas last season, going for just 256 yards and two scores. Some of Cooks' best seasons came with New Orleans, but that was from 2015-16.
The 31-year-old has some dynasty value remaining, but only is appealing for contending dynasty squads. He's just a depth option, and likely won't be startable most weeks.
Means had 118 yards and a score over seven games in his rookie season. The fifth-round pick is already 24 years old, and unless there's more injuries, he's likely to be buried on the depth chart. He's still worth stashing in some really deep dynasty leagues, but I'm not expecting much ever from him.
Tipton had 99 yards and no scores over 11 games last year, which was his first NFL season with any games played. The 24-year-old doesn't have much dynasty value, and is only worth a roster spot in really deep leagues.
Wilson is a veteran depth option as a 29-year-old. He hasn't gone over 300 yards since 2021, and that's unlikely to change in New Orleans, unless everyone gets hurt again. He's not worth rostering in dynasty leagues outside the really deep leagues out there.
Tight Ends
Juwan Johnson, Foster Moreau, Hill and rookie Moliki Matavao are some tight ends on the roster. Again, none of them are top-10 dynasty guys, and none ever figure to be.
Johnson had 548 yards and three scores over 17 games last year - that's not impressive, especially because so many guys were hurt. He has some short-term value, but I don't see the nearly 29-year-old ever breaking out.
He's an option for contending teams, but is just a secondary option, not a weekly starter.
Moreau is on the PUP list to start his age-28 season. He went for 413 yards and five touchdowns over 17 games last season. Moreau has some value right now, but isn't likely to ever be a starter outside super deep leagues. Hopefully he's able to get on the field right away and help this lacking pass-catcher group out.
Matavao was a seventh-round pick, so he has an uphill battle ahead of him if he wants to be a big fantasy asset some day. He's 22 years old and wasn't a huge contributor in college, so he's a lottery stash right now.
