Jacob Wilson Among Overlooked Fantasy Baseball Hitters Right Now
Looking at fantasy point totals and own percentages to see what fantasy hitters are being overlooked.
As we near the end of May, it's a good time to point out a lot of fantasy baseball-related things.
Today, I wanted to take a look at some overlooked fantasy baseball hitters. I'll be using fantasy point totals from ESPN, then own percentages from FantasySP.
Use the FantasySP Trade Value Chart and Trade Analyzer all season when assessing fantasy baseball trades. Also be sure to check out the new “Ask Fantasy Expert” tool inside the analyzer.
Overlooked Catchers
Colorado's Hunter Goodman is owned in 85% of leagues, but being the No. 4 fantasy catcher so far means he's not owned in nearly enough leagues. He hasn't had many lulls this season and is playing daily, so I like adding and utilizing Goodman in all leagues for the time being.
Chicago Cubs' Carson Kelly has faded a bit of late, but he's tied for fifth place amongst fantasy catchers and is available in 38% of leagues synced through FantasySP. It's sometimes hard to let go of the big-name players for the guys who are performing well during an individual season, but fantasy owners would benefit from choosing Kelly over several others for now.
LA Angels' Logan O'Hoppe is rostered in 77% of leagues and is a top-10 fantasy catcher so far. He's outproducing several guys who are owned in more leagues, and at some point, dropping them for O'Hoppe just makes most sense.
Overlooked First Basemen
San Francisco's Wilmer Flores is a top-10 fantasy first baseman this season, yet is only owned in 66% of leagues right now. He's been a pretty productive fantasy hitter of late too, so that's even more reason to add and utilize him now.
LA Angels' Nolan Schanuel and Milwaukee's Rhys Hoskins have been on-base machines over the past two weeks, and they aren't owned in nearly enough leagues.
Schanuel is at just 17% rostered, so he's more available than Hoskins, who is rostered in 51% of leagues. Both are good deep-league streaming options, and they are probably outperforming a lot of fantasy owner's first basemen in standard leagues.
Overlooked Second Basemen
Seattle's Jorge Polanco hasn't been the best over the past couple games, but he's still a top-five fantasy second baseman for the season. He's available to 13% of you, and is worth holding onto for a bit longer at least.
Detroit's Gleyber Torres is owned in 90% of leagues, but he really should be at 100%. He's a top-10 fantasy 2B this season, but already missed a good chunk of the season, so just think where he could rank if he was healthy all season.
Overlooked Shortstops
Athletics' Jacob Wilson is the No. 4 fantasy shortstop so far, and he's still available in 14% of leagues. It's well past time to have Wilson be owned in 100% of leagues - get it done before you lose out on him for good.
Houston's Jeremy Pena is available to 12% of you. He's another top-10 fantasy shortstop right now. I think Pena is overlooked most seasons, and the same thing is happening again in 2025.
Overlooked Third Basemen
There are no top-10 fantasy third basemen who I believe to be overlooked right now.
The No. 11 fantasy 3B is Miguel Vargas, and he's definitely overlooked. He's owned in just 26% of leagues. His overall mark so far says that own percentage deserves to be at or above 50%, so deep-league owners should definitely look into adding Vargas.
Athletics' Miguel Andujar is rostered in just 8% of leagues right now. He currently sits 14th at the position. Andujar could replace a lot of fantasy hitters that deep-league fantasy owners are currently rostering.
Overlooked Outfielders
St. Louis' Lars Nootbaar is available in 13% of leagues, but is currently a top-10 fantasy outfielder. He could be added and replace outfielders for several of the standard leagues he's not currently owned in.
San Francisco's Heliot Ramos is available in 12% of leagues. He's the No. 15 fantasy outfielder right now. He had a pretty good last season too, so I'm a bit surprised he's not universally owned already.
LA Angels' Taylor Ward has been a big waiver wire name this week, but is still only at 77% rostered. He's the No. 22 overall fantasy outfielder, so that alone says he's underowned right now.
Baltimore's Cedric Mullins is the No. 23 fantasy outfielder and currently is rostered in 87% of leagues. His average isn't great either, but his all-around numbers make up for that, and then some.
Cincinnati's TJ Friedl is next at No. 24. He's only owned in 48% of fantasy leagues right now. Friedl has been hot at the plate, and is probably being overlooked because he's on a bad offense overall.
Arizona's Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is the No. 26 fantasy outfielder, which was news to me. He's only rostered in 63% of fantasy leagues right now. Gurriel's average is also subpar, but good run production has him still delivering big fantasy results overall.
New York Yankees' Trent Grisham is a point behind Gurriel. He's only owned in 65% of leagues. At some point, fantasy production this season needs to trump a big-name slumping player, or players you are holding out hope for.
Miami's Kyle Stowers has tallied just one less point than Grisham. He's at 76% rostered, so while sitting in a better spot than the last two we mentioned, Stowers is still probably deserving of a higher percentage.
