Fantasy Baseball Week 8 Projections and Waiver Wire Hitting Options

Looking at week 8 fantasy baseball projections to identify some possible streaming options.

It's the start of a new fantasy baseball week, so it's time to identify some possible waiver wire options based on the weekly projections here at FantasySP.

We'll only check out hitters in this story. Check back in a bit for a look at some top projected pitchers.

Outfielders

Washington's Alex Call is projected for 28 fantasy points for the coming week, in which he could play up to seven games. He's only rostered in 5% of fantasy leagues.

Across 27 games and 97 plate appearances this season, Call has a .316 average, .421 on-base percentage, 14 RBIs, a stolen base, 13 runs scored, 16 walks and only 11 strikeouts. He's also got four doubles and a triple among his 24 total knocks.

Minnesota's Byron Buxton is set for 24 fantasy points across six games. He's rostered in 86% of leagues.

Buxton has a .264 average and .304 OBP across 38 games and 161 plate appearances this season. He also has nine homers, three triples and five doubles among his 39 total hits, along with 26 RBIs, eight stolen bases, 30 runs scored, eight walks and a whopping 54 strikeouts.

Washington's Dylan Crews (57% rostered) is set for 23 points across seven games. Baltimore's Cedric Mullins (86%) is projected for 23 points over six games.

Cincinnati's TJ Friedl (55%) and Arizona's Jake McCarthy (9%) are each projected for 22 fantasy points across six games. Baltimore's Anthony Santander (88%) and Tampa Bay's Chandler Simpson (43%) are each set for 21 points over six contests.

Texas' Joc Pederson (8%) and Adolis Garcia (80%), Athletics' JJ Bleday (38%), Toronto's George Springer (83%) and Philadelphia's Nick Castellanos (87%) are all projected for 20 fantasy points this week. Pederson and Garcia could play up to seven games, while the other outfielders have six contests each.

Shortstops

Miami's Xavier Edwards is projected for 23 fantasy points over six contests. He's owned in 65% of leagues.

He has a .259 average and .339 OBP across 39 games and 181 plate appearances this season. Edwards has three doubles and a triple among his 41 total hits, along with 11 RBIs and stolen bases, 19 walks, 18 runs scored and 30 strikeouts.

Houston's Jeremy Pena (78%), Los Angeles Angels' Zach Neto (69%), San Francisco's Willy Adames (88%) and San Diego's Xander Bogaerts (89%) are all set for 22 points. Pena is the only shortstop in that group with seven games, the rest are at six.

Chicago Cubs' Dansby Swanson (83%) and Toronto's Bo Bichette (89%) are each projected for 21 fantasy points across six games this week. St. Louis' Masyn Winn (46%) is at 20 points across six games.

Third Basemen

Arizona's Eugenio Suarez is projected for 24 fantasy points over six games. He's owned in 88% of leagues. 

Suarez has a .205 average and .299 OBP across 41 games and 167 plate appearances this season. He has 12 homers and seven doubles among his 30 total hits. Suarez also has 27 RBIs, a stolen base, 25 runs scored, 16 walks and 45 strikeouts.

Texas' Josh Smith is set for 23 points across seven possible games. He's rostered in 42% of leagues.

Smith has a .316 average and .395 OBP in 35 games and across 130 plate appearances so far. He's added 10 RBIs, four stolen bases, 18 runs scored, 14 walks and 23 strikeouts. Smith has four homers and doubles and one triple among his 36 total knocks.

Houston's Isaac Paredes (88%) and Texas' Josh Jung (49%) are projected for 20 fantasy points each and both have seven games they could play in.

Second Basemen

Washington's Luis Garcia Jr. is projected for the second-most fantasy points (26) this week. He's owned in just 66% of leagues and could play up to seven games.

He's hitting just .217 and has a .274 OBP on the season, so his own percentage makes sense. Garcia has five doubles and three homers among his 28 total knocks, along with 13 RBIs, six stolen bases, 18 runs scored, 10 walks and 20 strikeouts.

Detroit's Gleyber Torres is owned in 87% of leagues and is set for 24 points across six contests.

He's played in 28 games and gotten 124 plate appearances so far. Torres has a .284 average and .355 OBP, along with 21 RBIs, four stolen bases, 16 runs scored and 11 walks and strikeouts. He's homered four times and doubled on five occasions across 31 total knocks.

Texas' Marcus Semien (84%) is set for 23 points across seven possible games. San Diego's Jake Cronenworth (56%) is projected for 20 points and could play up to six games.

First Basemen

Washington's Nathaniel Lowe is projected for 24 fantasy points across seven games. He's rostered in 56% of leagues.

Lowe has a .242 average and .322 OBP across 41 games and 171 plate appearances so far. He has seven doubles and homers among his 37 total hits, along with 29 RBIs, a stolen base, 15 runs scored, 17 walks and 48 strikeouts.

Washington teammate Josh Bell (5%) is projected for 23 points across seven games. Texas' Jake Burger (33%) could be brought back up to the big leagues on Monday, and if he is, he's set for 23 points over seven games.

Bell has just a .134 average and .226 OBP across 34 games and 133 plate appearances so far. He has five homers and a triple and double among his 16 total knocks. Bell also has 14 RBIs, 12 runs scored, 13 walks and 31 strikeouts on the season.

Burger has appeared in 30 games and gotten 108 plate appearances so far. He has five doubles and three homers among his 19 total knocks, along with 12 RBIs, three walks, 13 runs scored and 32 strikeouts.

Tampa Bay's Yandy Diaz (80%), Arizona's Pavin Smith (26%), Cleveland's Carlos Santana (19%), Kansas City's Vinnie Pasquantino (85%) and Tampa Bay's Jonathan Aranda (53%) are all projected for 21 fantasy points this week. All of those hitters could appear in up to six contests.

Catchers

The top-projected catcher is St. Louis' Ivan Herrera, and he's set for 26 fantasy points over a possible six contests. He's owned in 53% of leagues.

Herrera just returned from the injured list, but has great season numbers across nine games and 33 plate appearances. He's got a .357 average and .424 OBP, along with four homers and three doubles, 10 total knocks, 13 RBIs, seven runs scored, four walks and seven strikeouts.

Washington's Keibert Ruiz is set for 24 points over seven possible games. He's owned in 64% of fantasy leagues.

Ruiz has a .292 average and .343 OBP over 35 games and 140 plate appearances so far. He has five doubles and two homers among his 38 total knocks. Ruiz has 14 RBIs, 13 runs scored, eight walks and 15 strikeouts as well.

Miami's Agustin Ramirez is set for 22 points over six games. He's rostered in 45% of leagues right now.

Across 17 games and 69 plate appearances so far, Ramirez has a .262 OBP and .304 OBP. He has four homers and eight doubles among his 17 total knocks. Ramirez also has nine RBIs, a stolen base, seven runs scored, four walks and 13 strikeouts to his name.

Chicago Cubs' Carson Kelly (75%) and Houston's Yainer Diaz (85%) are each projected for 21 fantasy points. Kelly has six games, while Diaz could play up to seven. Texas' Jonah Heim (17%) is projected for 20 points and could play up to seven games.
