The MLB offseason moves are starting to pick up. We just covered some transactions on Tuesday, but several more have happened since, so let's discuss those here.

Signings

Alonso has a New Home

The big move today was Pete Alonso signing with the Orioles. He signed a five-year, $155 million deal.

Alonso spent the first seven years of his career with the Mets. He played in all 162 regular season games this past year.

He had a .272 average and .347 on-base percentage in a prove-it year. Alonso has a .253 average and .341 OBP over his career.

Alonso had 170 total hits in 2025, including 41 doubles, 38 home runs and one triple. He had 126 RBIs, 87 runs scored, 61 walks and 162 strikeouts.

He's another big masher, but can provide a solid average too. His OBP is a bit lower than some of the other sluggers around the league, but Alonso still has plenty of fantasy value.

Alonso's fantasy outlook won't change all that much. Baltimore's lineup is very good as well, it just needs to stay healthy and it should be great in 2026 and beyond.

Alonso should hit in the heart of the lineup, which gives him a ton of fantasy value. If everyone else can stay healthy, Alonso could end up delivering his best fantasy season of his career in 2026.

Alonso is only eligible at first base, and he'll be one of the top-drafted players from that position. We'll see where Alonso sits a little closer to the start of the next regular season.

The Alonso addition boosts the fantasy stock of Jackson Holliday, Jordan Westburg, Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman and others.

It leaves a gaping hole in the Mets' lineup. Mark Vientos could slide from third to first, which would likely mean Brett Baty gets regular starts at third base. There's a lot of offseason to go, and I doubt the Mets are done making moves.

Right now though, the stock of several hitters (including Francisco Lindor, Marcus Semien, Juan Soto, Vientos and more) are down.

Finnegan Returning to Tigers

Kyle Finnegan signed a two-year deal with Detroit, reportedly for $19 million.

He was traded to Detroit during the 2025 season. In 56 appearances and 57 innings overall, Finnegan posted a 4-4 record and 3.47 earned run average. He had 55 strikeouts and 18 walks, while picking up 24 saves.

Finnegan will have the chance to earn more saves in 2026, but Will Vest will also likely get save chances as well. Not having a clear go-to closer hurts the fantasy stock of both relievers, but if they have low enough ERAs and can rack up wins/saves and strikeouts, both could be pretty valuable fantasy pieces.

We'll see if Detroit is done adding to its bullpen or not, but right now, Finnegan and Vest don't look like the best fantasy options. They could be drafted later on, but that's risky since both guys could earn saves, while being just a setup man for longer stretches too.

This will be a fascinating bullpen to keep tabs on going into 2026.

Soto Lands in Pittsburgh

Gregory Soto signed a one-year deal with the Pirates, for reportedly $7.75 million.

That's a good amount of money for a reliever, so it's possible the Pirates use him as a closer. Dennis Santana is another option for saves at the moment.

Soto pitched 70 games between stints with the Orioles and Mets in 2025. He was 1-5, but had a 4.18 ERA and a save over 60 1/3 innings. Soto had 70 strikeouts and 24 walks along the way.

Soto is worth watching as the new season gets started. He could earn saves in time, which would give him fantasy value. Right now though, he looks like he will either set up Santana, or split the closer role, and Pittsburgh isn't nearly good enough to support co-closers, let alone one.

Trade

Angels and Red Sox Swap Players

In a minor trade, Vaughn Grissom was sent from Boston to Los Angeles for Isaiah Jackson.

Grissom made his MLB debut back in 2022, but has played in just 95 total games since. He has a .255 average and .309 on-base percentage, but really struggled with Boston over 31 games and 114 plate appearances last season.

Maybe a change of scenery will help him out. He will have a chance to land an everyday role for the Angels, and that would obviously give him some fantasy value.

He likely won't be drafted in many leagues going into the regular season, so Grissom is a waiver wire guy to keep tabs on throughout the season in case he takes off.

Jackson was the Angels' No. 25 prospect, but he doesn't rank in the top 30 for Boston.

Jackson is a 21-year-old outfielder who has one minor league season under his belt. He played in just 10 games, posting a .219 average and .324 OBP.

He was an eighth-round pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, and clearly the Red Sox like him, so we'll see if they can one day develop him into an MLB asset.

So Grissom is worth watching for this season, while Jackson is more of a dynasty piece.
