Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: 5 Hitters to Target on Friday

Looking for offense after the All-Star break? These waiver wire bats are trending up heading into the weekend.

Let's discuss some more fantasy baseball waiver wire options as we return to MLB regular season action today!

We'll go over some hitters here. Also be sure to check out Friday's starting pitcher streaming article.

Fantasy baseball waiver wire options can be found all season on FantasySP!

Spencer Steer and Eugenio Suarez - Cincinnati Reds

Steer is up 2.28% and sits at 42.99% overall now. Suarez is up 1.07% today and is rostered in 59.03% of leagues overall.

Steer had three multi-hit games over the final five games before the All-Star break. The problem was that he went hitless in the other two games.

He has a .247 average and .328 on-base percentage across 91 games and 358 plate appearances this season. Steer has 14 homers and 13 doubles, plus 78 total hits, 37 RBIs, 52 runs scored, three stolen bases, 34 walks and 80 strikeouts as well.

Steer can play all over the field, so that ups his fantasy value some. When his bat is hot, he can be added and utilized in more leagues, but you really need to be watching him, as it's also not worth holding him at certain points. For now, I'd only utilize him in deeper leagues.

Suarez was heating up before the break. He had four hits over the final three games, and homered in back-to-back games.

He has a .208 average and .285 OBP over 67 games and 267 plate appearances this season. Suarez has 10 doubles, 11 homers, 50 total hits, 35 RBIs, 23 runs scored, 24 walks and 96 strikeouts as well.

Suarez has underwhelmed this fantasy season, but he could bounce back down the stretch. He was trending up before the break, so we'll see if he can keep things going starting today. Suarez is another I only like in deeper leagues right now, but a couple more positive showings could get him back into standard leagues, and that could stick for the remainder of the season, so be ready to pounce with Suarez.

Francisco Alvarez - New York Mets

Alvarez has been added in 1.68% of leagues, which brings his overall mark to 20.26%.

Alvarez and the Mets played Thursday, topping the Phillies. The catcher had two hits (both home runs). He also walked once.

He has back-to-back two-hit games now, and two walks over those contests too. Alvarez has a .259 average and .325 OBP over 65 games and 236 plate appearances this season. He has 55 total hits, including 11 homers and seven doubles, plus 24 RBIs, 21 runs scored, 18 walks and 61 strikeouts.

Alvarez is worth tracking in case he starts delivering more at the plate. He is just a deep-league fantasy asset right now in my eyes, but he could sneak into standard leagues quickly if he keeps hitting, and especially popping home runs.

Justin Crawford - Philadelphia Phillies

Crawford is owned in 12.33% of leagues after being scooped up in 1.27% of leagues today.

He played on Thursday, not collecting a hit across three at-bats. Crawford had five hits over the final three games before the break though.

Crawford has a .260 average and .309 OBP over his first 89 games and 290 plate appearances in the big leagues. He has 12 doubles, three triples and two homers among his 70 total hits, plus 21 RBIs, 28 runs scored, 12 stolen bases, 17 walks and 59 strikeouts.

His lack of pop and run production holds him down as a fantasy asset, but if he's racking up hits and adding in some stolen bases, there's some fantasy value to take advantage of. He's just a deep-league fantasy asset until he really takes off at the plate, but crazier things have happened, so keep watching him.

Caleb Durbin - Boston Red Sox

Durbin is up 1.11%, which brings his new overall mark to 49.34%.

He plays four games this weekend thanks to a scheduled doubleheader today. That ups Durbin and put him in our weekend projection article.

He has just a .228 average and .293 OBP over 87 games and 317 plate appearances this season, but he's been much better of late. Durbin has 18 doubles, nine homers and a triple among his 65 total hits, plus 39 RBIs, 38 runs scored, 10 stolen bases, 22 walks and just 44 strikeouts.

Durbin has a .325 average and .400 OBP over his past 23 games, which coincides with better play for Boston overall. The third baseman is worth adding and utilizing in all deeper leagues, while being a sneaky-good option in standard leagues, especially if you need some help at third base or in the infield. At least consider Durbin today.
