Friday's Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Targets: Kyle Manzardo, Colson Montgomery and More

Looking at a few waiver wire pitchers and hitters to consider adding in fantasy baseball leagues.

Friday is here, so it's time for the final fantasy baseball waiver wire story of the week.

We won't cover anyone who appeared in stories on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. We'll also avoid anyone from the Friday streaming pitcher article.

Check out the top fantasy baseball waiver wire options everyday on FantasySP.

Should You Add Kyle Manzardo?

Manzardo is up 3.45% and sits at 19.14% overall now.

He's on a four-game hitting streak, and has a homer and double among five hits in that span. Manzardo has eight hits over his past eight games and 32 plate appearances. He's tallied three homers and a double in that stretch, while also having nine RBIs, three runs scored, four walks and six strikeouts.

Over 87 games and 319 plate appearances this season, Manzardo has a .223 average and .298 on-base percentage. Those marks might not be the best, but his 16 homers, 12 doubles and two triples amongst 63 total hits still give him some fantasy value. Manzardo has 42 RBIs, 28 runs scored, a stolen base, 30 walks and 80 strikeouts as well.

He starts and has been hitting cleanup against every right-handed pitcher, while sitting against lefties. Manzardo's fantasy value is capped by being a platoon player, but he plays enough for at least deep-league fantasy consideration.

He's on the rise of late and is trending in the right direction. If Manzardo was eligible at a position other than first base, his own percentage might be a bit higher, but there's plenty of first basemen to go around.

Manzardo is outside the top 30 at the position, so he's just a deep-league option, and not even one to add in all deep leagues at this point. He'll need to keep hitting in order to get added in all deeper leagues, but in some deeper setups, he could be worth a roster spot.

Should You Add Colson Montgomery?

Montgomery is owned in 13% of leagues, which is up from 7% on July 23.

He's on a roll at the plate of late, collecting seven hits over his past six games. Montgomery has two homers and two doubles among the hits, along with 10 RBIs, four runs scored, no walks and eight strikeouts.

Montgomery has now played in 16 big league games, and has a .275 average and .351 OBP so far. He has the two doubles and homers, along with a triple, among his 14 total hits. Montgomery has 12 RBIs, six runs scored, six walks and 15 strikeouts so far.

He has been in the starting lineup for each of the team's past five games. The left-handed hitting Montgomery even started against a lefty, so he appears to have earned a daily role with the White Sox. Montgomery has hit between sixth-eighth in the order, but that could change in time if he keeps hitting well.

Montgomery has already made six appearances at third base and 10 at shortstop, and that dual position eligibility could be a nice boost for him as fantasy owners recognize what he's doing. He was a highly-regarded prospect, so I'm a bit surprised he isn't rostered in more leagues now.

He's most valuable in dynasty/keeper leagues for sure, but is starting to gain redraft traction with consistent results at the plate. Montgomery is worth an add in some deeper leagues already, and in time, he could maybe work into standard leagues.

I'd be willing to at least add and stash Montgomery in a deeper redraft league. He's worth starting in more leagues already. At least give him a chance after he's delivered some good results in his first couple weeks in the MLB.

Should You Add Seranthony Dominguez or Gregory Soto?

Dominguez got a 5.05% boost and is rostered in 11.72% of leagues overall. Soto is owned in 8% of leagues.

The Baltimore relievers are on the rise after closer Felix Bautista hit the injured list with right shoulder discomfort. He's at least out 15 days, and if the Orioles fall out of contention and sell at the trade deadline, he could be out for much longer.

Dominguez is the more popular waiver wire add, but it was Soto who got a save on Thursday night. Dominguez got a hold after working the eighth inning.

Soto has appeared in 45 games and covered 36 1/3 innings so far this season. He's 0-2 with a save, blown save and 18 holds. Soto has allowed 17 runs (16 earned) on 29 hits and 18 walks, while striking out 44 batters.

Dominguez has covered 40 2/3 innings over 42 appearances. He's 2-3 with two saves, three blown saves and 13 holds. Dominguez has allowed 19 runs (15 earned) on 31 hits and 24 walks, while striking out 53 batters.

You can see why Dominguez was the reliever fantasy owners went for after the Bautista news broke, but if Soto is the one earning saves, he'll be the Baltimore fantasy reliever you want.

Before more fantasy owners add Soto, I'd want to see him earn another save. It's possible the Orioles utilize Dominguez and Soto as co-closers, and then neither are the best fantasy options to add.

Either way, with how Baltimore has played this season, Soto or Dominguez are likely just deep-league assets. We'll cover them more in the closer report later today, so check back for that!

Update: Soto was traded to the Mets on Friday, so Dominguez now looks to be the top closing option for Baltimore. Soto will be a high-leverage reliever for New York, but shouldn't be added in any leagues.

Should You Add Masyn Winn?

Winn is rostered in 51% of leagues. He's slightly trending up of late.

Winn went hitless on Thursday, but had racked up 12 hits in the seven games before that. In the month of July, Winn has a .274 average and .293 OBP, but just four RBIs, five runs scored, two stolen bases and walks and 12 strikeouts.

The Cardinals' offense is holding him back, as is him batting sixth in the order. He's starting every day though, and if he's racking up enough hits, he's at least a deep-league option.

Winn has a .266 average and .321 OBP over 92 games and 387 plate appearances this season. He has 20 doubles and seven home runs among his 94 total hits, along with 34 RBIs, 57 runs scored, six stolen bases, 27 walks and 67 strikeouts. For having a pretty solid average and OBP, his RBI total is really, really low, and that is what is most holding him back as a fantasy asset.

He might not be doing much outside getting hits right now, but that makes him valuable enough to add in some deeper fantasy leagues. There's plenty of fantasy shortstops to go around though, so he's not a must-add player and he'll likely top out as a deep-league option.

Should You Add Zebby Matthews

Matthews is owned in 31% of leagues, and that should grow throughout the day as he's a streaming option tonight.

He'll take on the Nationals later tonight. Matthews hasn't faced Washington this season across five starts, but it's a favorable enough matchup to consider the young hurler in.

Matthews made three starts in May and then has made one start in June and July. He's 1-2 with a 6.26 earned run average over 23 innings so far. Matthews has allowed 16 runs on 28 hits and nine walks, while striking out 31 batters.

He's coming off a favorable matchup against the Rockies - he was blasted for five runs on eight hits and a walk over four innings, but did strike out six batters at least.

Matthews allowed four runs in two other starts, and gave up one and two runs in the other outings. He's topped out at seven innings, but has been at five innings just one other time.

I'm not understanding why he's a popular streaming option today. Matthews hasn't pitched well enough this season to be a big-time streaming option tonight, and there's several better options in the daily streaming story.

I wouldn't consider Matthews at all for a standard league streaming start tonight. I think there's better options for deeper leagues as well, and would only try Matthews as a last resort.
