Sunday's Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups Include Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Michael McGreevy
Looking at a few waiver wire hitters and pitchers to consider adding in fantasy baseball leagues.
Let's go over some more weekend fantasy baseball waiver wire options!
I won't include anyone who appeared in waiver stories earlier in the week. Here's Saturday's combined story. Here are the hitting waiver stories (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday) and pitching waiver articles (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday) from earlier in the week.
We won't include any of the starting pitchers who appeared in Sunday's streaming article either.
Check out the top fantasy baseball waiver wire options everyday on FantasySP.
Should You Add Christian Encarnacion-Strand?
Encarnaction-Strand is up 2.17% today, bringing his overall mark to 14.05%.
He just returned from the injured list a couple days ago, and is rolling in his first two games back.
He's gotten 10 plate appearances since returning, and Encarnacion-Strand has five hits in that short span. He's hit two homers and doubled once among the hits. Encarnacion-Strand also has five RBIs, two runs scored and two strikeouts.
He's played in just 17 games so far this season. He's sitting at a .209 average and .229 on-base percentage. Encarnacion-Strand has three doubles and four home runs among his 14 total knocks, along with 10 RBIs, six runs scored, a walk and 15 strikeouts.
Encarnacion-Strand is playing in his third season in the big leagues. He showed some upside in his first 63 MLB games in 2023, but has had weak numbers since. Coming into this season, Encarnacion-Strand had played in just 92 games, posting a .243 average and .291 OBP across those games.
We simply haven't seen enough out of Encarnacion-Strand to get a good assessment on what he can bring to the table. He's hot at the plate right now, and that makes him an option in deeper fantasy leagues.
I'd have no issues adding him in some deeper leagues. He's got enough upside to take the gamble on, and there's a chance he keeps producing, so it might not just be a short-term pickup.
He'd need to deliver for a couple weeks in a row before getting serious standard league attention. Encarnacion-Strand is worth watching at the very least, because he has the power to appeal to fantasy owners.
Should You Add Jo Adell?
Adell is rostered in 9% of fantasy leagues. That might not seem like a lot, but he's up from about 2% back at the start of this month, so he's definitely trending up a bit.
Over his past 15 games and 57 plate appearances, Adell has a .313 average and .421 OBP. He's got six homers and two doubles among his 15 total hits, along with 11 RBIs, a stolen base, nine runs scored, five walks and nine strikeouts.
The only problem is that he has six hitless games in that span, so Adell is kind of hit-or-miss with his fantasy production, even when he's hot at the plate.
He's played in 56 games overall this season, and he has 188 plate appearances so far. Adell has a .225 average and .298 OBP - he was at a .189 average and .244 OBP before these past 15 games. Adell has seven doubles and 11 homers among his 38 total hits, along with 29 RBIs, two stolen bases, 20 runs scored, 12 walks and 44 strikeouts.
His numbers are wild to look at. The low average and OBP are very concerning, even after this hot stretch. The extra-base hits give him some fantasy appeal though.
Again, this is another fantasy hitter I'd just want to add in deeper fantasy leagues. I think Adell will top out as a deep-league option as well. He's a career .213 hitter with a .273 OBP after all.
I'm fine adding him in some deeper redraft leagues for the time being though. He's producing enough to roster at least as a backup for the time being. Adell could be started if you are lacking outfielders.
Should You Add Michael McGreevy?
McGreevy is going to start on Sunday for the Cardinals. He's been added in 4.92% of fantasy leagues as a result, and he's owned in 11.29% overall now.
He has a tough matchup ahead against the Dodgers. However, he shut down another tough offense in his only other big league start this season, so there's some hope for the young pitcher.
McGreevy faced the Mets back on May 4. He worked 5 2/3 scoreless innings and picked up a win. McGreevy allowed one hit and one walk, while striking out five batters. He needed just 80 pitches for that outing.
The Dodgers are one of the top offenses in the league, but after that first start, I think McGreevy is a pretty solid option for the day. You also have to imagine a couple regular starters for the Dodgers might get a day off with the day game after a night game.
McGreevy should only be trusted in deeper redraft leagues probably today, but there's enough reason to utilize him in any type of league. There's risk involved for sure, but I could make the argument at least.
McGreevy is a player to keep tabs on, especially if he excels in Sunday's start. He could stick in the rotation, and then his matchups going forward would have to lighten up a bit.
Should You Add Bryce Elder?
Elder started on Saturday, so he's being added after a good start on the hill. He's rostered in 22.65% of fantasy leagues after a 4.14% increase.
Elder started against the Giants, working the first eight innings. He allowed a run on three hits and no walks, while punching out 12 batters. He ended up with a no decision after the Braves blew the lead in the ninth inning.
Elder has now made 10 starts on the season. He's 2-3 with a 4.08 earned run average over 57 1/3 innings so far. Elder has allowed 26 runs on 51 hits and 16 walks, while striking out 49 batters.
He's been solid over his past seven starts, not allowing over three runs in any outing. Elder has a 2.98 ERA over 42 1/3 innings in that span, and also has 39 strikeouts over those starts.
Elder has another favorable start ahead, which is another reason why he's being added in fantasy leagues. He is slated to face the Rockies in his next start, and that start will come in Atlanta.
I love the idea of adding and streaming Elder for that contest. He's coming off a great start, and that matchup is as good as it gets. Elder could even be a good standard league streaming option for that game.
Should You Add Ryan Bergert?
Bergert is another streaming option on Sunday. He's been added in 3.58% of leagues and is up to 22.65% overall.
He's made one start among his five MLB appearances so far in 2025. Bergert started against the Giants in his last appearance, and he pitched pretty well over five innings.
Bergert allowed two runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out a pair. He didn't earn a decision after the game eventually went into extra innings.
He threw 83 pitches in that contest, so he's stretched out enough to at least work that far again on Sunday. Bergert will face the Brewers, who have weaker numbers on the season, but are also capable of scoring several runs in any game. He'll oppose Freddy Peralta, who has a 2.92 ERA this season, so Bergert will need to pitch well in order to get a win today.
I'd have no issues adding and streaming Bergert in deeper leagues today, but I wouldn't call him a must-start pitcher. There's better streaming matchups out there though.
