Is Tomoyuki Sugano or Lance McCullers Jr. the Better Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pitcher to Add?

We've hit the middle of the work week, which means it's time for our third round of fantasy baseball waiver wire stories.

We'll check out pitchers first today, but not cover anyone who appeared in waiver articles on Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday's streaming article.

Check out the top fantasy baseball waiver wire options everyday on FantasySP.

Should You Add Lance McCullers Jr.?

McCullers started on Tuesday, but is still being added today. He's up to 57.53% overall.

He worked six scoreless innings and got a win against the Pirates on Tuesday. McCullers allowed two hits and one walk, while striking out seven batters.

That was his sixth start of the season, and Houston is 4-2 in those games. McCullers is 1-1 with a 4.44 earned run average over 24 1/3 innings. He's allowed 14 runs (12 earned) on 22 hits and 12 walks, while striking out 33 batters.

McCullers had a blowup start in his second season appearance against the Reds, but has been pretty good otherwise. He allowed seven runs while getting just one out against Cincy. In his other 24 innings, McCullers has allowed seven runs (five earned) on 19 hits and nine walks, while punching out 33.

He's got a couple decent matchups ahead, with probable starts against the Guardians and Twins. McCullers hasn't faced either of those teams yet this season.

Based on how he's pitched and the matchups ahead, McCullers should be rostered and utilized in all deeper redraft leagues for those appearances. He likely will be a good deep-league option all season, so I'm a fan of adding him.

McCullers will be a pretty good streaming option in standard leagues for those two matchups as well. Depending on who else is available those days, McCullers could be one of the better streaming options available.

Should You Add Landen Roupp?

Roupp also turned in a good start on Tuesday, so it's easy to see why he's on the rise. He's rostered in 38.11% of leagues now.

He worked 6 1/3 scoreless innings against the Padres on Tuesday, but left with a no decision. Roupp surrendered four hits and two walks, while striking out five batters.

Roupp has now made 12 starts this season, with the Giants going 6-6 in those contests. He is 3-4 with a 3.18 ERA over 62 1/3 innings. Roupp has allowed 30 runs (22 earned) on 64 hits and 22 walks, while striking out 61 batters.

He's allowed four or more runs in five of his starts, but also has five games with two or less runs allowed. Roupp now has three scoreless starts, with each lasting at least six innings.

His strikeout numbers are solid, although they've been inconsistent. Walks are a bit of an issue, with two in four straight starts.

Most importantly, Roupp has been mostly good of late. He allowed four runs (one earned) on May 28 against the Tigers, but shutout the Athletics (May 17), Nationals (May 23) and then Padres last night over his past four starts.

His next start (if he makes it) would come against the Braves most likely. Atlanta has plenty of talent on offense, but is actually a decent matchup. A test against the Dodgers looms after that, and that's not a matchup to try many pitchers in.

I'm fine adding Roupp in deeper redraft leagues, but I'd keep a close eye on the team's probable pitchers. Justin Verlander is due back from the injured list soon, and it's possible he replaces Roupp in the rotation.

I'd be fine starting Roupp in deeper leagues for the Atlanta start (if he makes it), along with a few standard league streaming starts. I'd avoid Roupp if he starts against the Dodgers, and that goes for all leagues.

Should You Add Tomoyuki Sugano?

Sugano turned in a solid start on Tuesday as well. He's now rostered in 52.7% of leagues overall.

Sugano got the win after working seven innings against the Mariners on Tuesday. He allowed a run on five hits and a walk, while striking out five batters.

The win pushed Sugano's win-loss record to 5-3 across his 12 starts. He's got a 3.04 ERA over 71 innings, allowing 24 runs on 63 hits and 11 walks, while striking out 40 batters.

Sugano has only allowed over three runs in one start this season. He's surrendered two or less runs eight times.

He's a good fantasy asset, but his lack of strikeouts holds him back a bit. Sugano needs deeper starts with low amounts of runs allowed to turn in good fantasy results.

Sugano has done a solid job of that since the start of May. In six starts, he's 2-2 with a 3.08 ERA over 38 innings. Sugano has allowed 13 runs on 31 hits and five walks over that span, while striking out 23 batters.

His upcoming probable starts could come against the Athletics and Angels. Sugano hasn't faced the Athletics, but he did pitch against the Angels. He allowed a run on three hits and no walks over 7 1/3 innings - he earned the win and struck out five batters in that contest.

Sugano seems like a pretty good deep-league option for this season, and I'd be comfortable starting/streaming him for his next two starts.

His lack of strikeouts will likely hold him back from being owned in all standard leagues ever, but he's a good streaming option for those contests. I'd consider Sugano for a standard league streaming start against the Athletics, and as long as that start goes pretty well, then I'd be all for streaming him in standard leagues against the Angels.

Should You Add Noah Cameron?

Cameron is our first streaming option for Wednesday. He's been added in 3.25% of leagues and is now rostered in 67.03% of leagues.

He's made four big league starts so far, and been really good in all of those outings. The Royals are 2-2 in his starts, but Cameron sits with a 2-1 record and 1.05 ERA over 25 2/3 innings. He's allowed three runs on 13 hits and eight walks, while striking out 16 batters.

He's made starts against the Rays, Cardinals, Twins and Reds, so not high-powered offenses, but also some decent ones. Cameron has worked at least 6 1/3 innings in each start, while not allowing more than a run in any outing.

Cameron has allowed more hits with each start, giving up six in his most recent start. Five of his walks came in his first start. Cameron had eight punchouts in his third start, and three or less punchouts in every other game.

He faces the Cardinals again on Wednesday. The first start against St. Louis saw Cameron work 6 1/3 innings and take the loss despite allowing a run on two hits and no walks. He struck out three and the lone run he allowed came on a homer.

Cameron is worth a start in all deeper leagues today. He's pitched well enough so far and his matchup is good enough to trust again.

Cameron is going to get a fair amount of standard league starts today too, and I'd be for that option as well. His ceiling might not be super high because of his lack of strikeouts, but he's also got a really strong floor. We'll see if he can keep things rolling.
