Clarke Schmidt and Shane Baz Among Wednesday's Fantasy Baseball Starting Pitcher Streamers
Four starting pitchers in action on Wednesday who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups.
Welcome to the Hump Day Edition of starting pitcher streamers. Let's look at four starting pitchers in action on Wednesday who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups.
Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable pitchers. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.

Shane Baz, Tampa Bay Rays vs. Texas Rangers
Baz is average with walks and above average with strikeouts. Injuries have been his biggest issue, including missing all of 2023, but Baz has looked good when on the field. He has been hit hard this season, though: Baz has allowed 12 home runs in 60.1 innings after allowing just 17 homers in 120 innings before this season. If Baz can keep up his good rates and stay on the field, he'll likely become a more popular fantasy player.
The Rangers are bad offensively. I'm running out of things to say about them, and we still have about 100 games left; it might be a long summer. There is no main issue, as Texas is poor in pretty much every area, only hitting homers at even an average rate.
Baz is a mid- to high-level streamer. The matchup is great, and Baz has been a high-level pitcher at times, though he has been hit a little harder this year.
Sawyer Gipson-Long, Detroit Tigers @ Chicago White Sox
Gipson-Long threw his first 20 big-league innings in 2023, but major injury hit, and he missed all of 2024 after Tommy John surgery. He did really good strikeout work in his short time, and he was also good with Ks in the minor leagues, so it's reasonable to think he can continue that level, but it's tough to trust a guy returning from such a big layoff. Proceed with caution, though there is intrigue.
The matchup is perfect for his return, as the White Sox might be the worst offensive team in baseball. There are other contenders for that dubious honor, but Chicago is in the bottom five in most offensive box stats, and they will likely stay at that level all season (and into 2026…and maybe further).
Gipson-Long is a low- to mid-level streamer. There is upside, as he has been good with strikeouts as a pro, and the matchup is great, but it's tough to trust him for big things.
Cal Quantrill, Miami Marlins vs. Colorado Rockies
Quantrill took a one-year detour playing in Colorado last season. He had an ERA around 5.00, which is to be expected when pitching at Coors Field half the time, but Quantrill also lost his control, walking 10.5% of the batters he faced after never topping 7.9% in a season in which he threw at least 20 innings. Quantrill is also well below average with strikeouts, not giving him many places to excel.
Facing his old team will be a nice reprieve, though, especially in Miami rather than in Colorado. The Rockies are as bad as any team on the offensive side of the ball, and they don't fare any better when pitching: that's why they are 11-50 (but on a two-game winning streak!). Every pitcher is a good streamer against the Rockies, especially when they're playing on the road, though they can still be targeted at Coors Field.
Quantrill is a low- to mid-level streamer. The matchup is right, but he just hasn't been good enough in any aspect to expect great things. This is more about the chance at a few decent innings.
Clarke Schmidt, New York Yankees vs. Cleveland Guardians
Schmidt is a really good strikeout pitcher who is right around average with walks. That latter number has been way worse than average in 2025, though that's in only 43.1 innings, an even smaller sample than most pitchers because Schmidt started the season on the IL and didn't make his debut until mid-April. Schmidt is a worthy streamer, especially given his strikeout work.
The Guardians rank in the bottom 10 in runs, hits, doubles, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS. They are barely above that bottom group in walks, though they don't strike out a ton. Like the Rangers, Cleveland hits home runs at a decent rate, but they don't do anything else well offensively, putting them squarely on our target list.
Schmidt is a mid- to high-level streamer. When he puts it all together, Schmidt can go at a level that would make him a fantasy keeper, but that hasn't been the case so far in 2025. That upside makes him intriguing in streamer land, though, where we are usually dealing with low-end pitchers.
