Each week I have been choosing one player at each offensive fantasy position who will struggle to be productive, and the results have been pretty good, including in Week 3. I try to choose players who are usually in lineups every week or who have big stats/potential/names rather than just pointing out a lowly player who won't put up big numbers. I like to say I'm choosing "fantasy stars," but that term is used somewhat loosely in the universe of this column. Last week's picks:

Sam LaPorta started his career with two good games, catching five passes in each and gaining 102 total yards. Week 3 served as his coming out party: eight catches for 84 yards and his first touchdown. He had 11 targets in Week 3 and had 22 through in those first three weeks combined, less than only T.J. Hockenson's 28 among tight ends. LaPorta has the most receiving yards at the position and is tied for the second-most receptions. LaPorta followed up with another solid outing last night on Thursday Night Football, catching four of five targets for 56 yards.

I saw Justin Fields (along with Lamar Jackson) as the quarterback most likely to finish in the top three in fantasy scoring this season other than the big three of Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Jalen Hurts. He ran for 1,143 yards and eight touchdowns last season, and Fields seemed to be blossoming into a consistently great fantasy quarterback, even if he was lacking something as a real-life QB.

My second week picking "fantasy stars" who were going to struggle didn't go quite as well as a strong Week 1, but was still decent:

Nico Collins is the sixth-highest scoring wide receiver in PPR scoring (seventh in Standard) through two weeks. This is a player who was drafted in the late rounds of deep leagues and not selected at all in shallower leagues. Players go under the radar to start the season all the time, but Collins has come out of nowhere to be a fantasy WR1 in his third season.

Joshua Dobbs was the fifth-highest-scoring quarterback of Week 2 (according to Fantasy Pros, which I will use for all fantasy points/rankings). He had 228 yards and a touchdown passing with no interceptions and no sacks against the New York Giants. Those numbers look pedestrian, but he added 41 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground to buoy his fantasy day.

We've seen Justin Fields, Tua Tagovailoa, and Anthony Richardson all do great things in fantasy in their short careers. Fields is one of the best running quarterbacks ever and put up over 1,100 rushing yards last year. Tua now has four career games with at least 360 passing yards (with two over 400) after Sunday's performance. Richardson looked like a QB in control, as the inexperienced rookie had 223 yards passing and ran for 40 and a touchdown.

Week 2 is nearly here so let's tackle a burning start decision before tonight's game with the Philadelphia Eagles versus the Minnesota Vikings. Can Dallas Goedert redeem his Week 1 performance? Is Hunter Henry a reliable start at tight end? Let's dig into the numbers.

Last week, I named a player at each offensive fantasy position who would struggle in Week 1. I wasn’t just looking for a player to sit; I chose a star, an obvious starter, at each position and called their poor performance. I hate to brag (that’s not true; I love it), but I pretty much nailed it!!

Overreactions start as early as kickoff of Week 1, and we have decided that a star is washed up or a team is doomed by halftime of the first games. I had a friend text me that none of his fantasy players were doing anything yet; the first quarter of the first wave of games was about halfway through at that point.
