Should You Add Landen Roupp?
Roupp is up 4.28% today and is at 24.94% overall now. He is a streaming option for Friday.
Roupp has made nine starts this season, and is 2-3 with a 4.11 earned run average over 46 innings so far. He's allowed 26 runs (21 earned) on 50 hits and 16 walks. Roupp has struck out 47 batters.
He's in his second big league season. Roupp made four starts over 23 appearances last season, going 1-2 with a 3.58 ERA over 50 1/3 innings.
Roupp's strikeouts per nine innings are up this season, while his walks are down, so he's improved in those two areas. His WHIP and ERA are higher though, so it's held him back from being a bigger fantasy asset.
Roupp will take on the Nationals on Friday afternoon. It's a pretty favorable matchup for Roupp. He has not faced them this season.
Roupp has been trending up in May. He's allowed no more than two earned runs in any of his three starts. Roupp has surrendered seven total runs (four earned) on 15 hits and two walks over those appearances. He has 12 strikeouts over 16 innings.
I'm fine giving Roupp a streaming spot in a deeper redraft league, but he's not a must-start option. I'd avoid him in standard leagues until he delivers above-average results more often.
Should You Add Matthew Boyd?
Boyd is another streaming option on Friday. He's rostered in 79.43% of leagues after a 3.15% increase today.
Boyd has been a surprise early this season. Across nine starts, he has a 4-2 record and 2.98 ERA. He's covered 51 1/3 innings, allowing 20 runs (17 earned) on 50 hits and 13 walks, while striking out 53 batters.
He's got a career 4.75 ERA, so to be under 3.00 right now is really a shock to many fantasy owners. His strikeouts per nine innings are up from his career mark, but nothing too drastic. Boyd's walks per nine innings are down, and it's helped him post a 1.23 WHIP, which is comfortably below his career 1.31 mark.
He's got a good offense backing him up, and against average- or weaker-hitting teams, Boyd is a really good option right now. His own percentage reflects that.
A start against the Reds on Friday night is another good chance for Boyd to shine. He has not faced them this season, but the matchup is set up to allow Boyd to excel.
He's only allowed more than three runs in one start, and that was against the stacked Dodgers' lineup, and he only gave up three earned in that one (six total runs).
Boyd is a great option for Friday's game. He definitely needs to be starting in deeper leagues, and he really should be utilized in most standard leagues too. Scoop him up and stream him if you can.
Should You Add Daulton Varsho?
Varsho is up 2.71% today, bringing his overall mark to 19.29%.
In 17 games and 71 plate appearances this season, Varsho has a .215 average and .239 on-base percentage. He began the season on the injured list, so he's just now getting ramped up.
Varsho has seven homers, three doubles and a triple among his 14 total hits, so those are notable numbers. He has 19 RBIs, a stolen base, 12 runs scored, three walks and 24 strikeouts as well.
He started so-so at the plate, but now is on an eight-game stretch where he's collected a hit in all but one contest. Varsho has four homers, two doubles and a triple among his eight hits in that span. He's drove in 12 runs, scored eight times, failed to walk and struck out eight times.
The outfielder is playing often and batting third each day of late. Toronto isn't the best lineup to be a part of, but Varsho is in a favorable fantasy spot regardless because of his spot in the order.
Varsho is the classic power hitter in today's game. He's got a career .225 average and .295 OBP across six seasons and 594 total games. Varsho has 86 homers, 18 triples and 92 doubles among his 442 total hits, along with 259 RBIs, 52 stolen bases, 286 runs scored, 184 walks and 541 strikeouts.
There's enough fantasy value in those numbers, even without a good average or OBP, to roster and utilize Varsho in some fantasy leagues. He's just a deep-league option, and that would only change if he got in a power surge at the plate. He can be added and utilized immediately for a lot of deep-league fantasy players reading this.
Should You Add Noah Cameron?
Cameron is another streaming option on Friday. He's rostered in 19.04% of leagues after a 2.97% increase today.
He has made two big leagues starts this season. In his MLB debut against the Rays on April 30, Cameron tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings. He allowed one hit and five walks, while striking out three batters.
Cameron then worked 6 1/3 innings against the Cardinals on May 17. He allowed a run on two hits and no walks, while striking out three again.
Cameron's first start turned heads, but the walks were concerning. He eased fantasy owner's minds by not walking anyone in his last start, and he turned in another good start. The lack of strikeouts hurt his fantasy ceiling, but his fantasy floor seems pretty solid too.
He will face the Twins on Friday night. Minnesota is a tougher matchup than they were a couple weeks ago, but it's still a matchup worth pursuing, especially when discussing a pitcher who has excelled so far.
I have no issues giving Cameron a start in deeper redraft leagues tonight. I think there's better options out there for standard league streamers, but Cameron might work to that level with another good start or two.
Should You Add Clarke Schmidt?
Schmidt is rostered in 53.05% of leagues after a 2.28% bump up today. Guess what, he's a streaming option today too.
Schmidt has made six big league starts this season, going 1-1 with a 4.41 ERA. He's allowed 16 runs on 25 hits and 17 walks over 32 2/3 innings, while striking out 30 batters.
Since allowing five runs against the Guardians in his second start back on April 21, Schmidt has surrendered just eight runs over his past four outings combined. He has at least five strikeouts in all but two starts, but only has two or less walks on three occasions. Schmidt has covered six innings in three straight appearances.
A start against the Rockies is a favorable one for Schmidt, but the game being in Colorado knocks his fantasy outlook down a bit. The Rockies are still a team I like to take advantage of, so Schmidt can at least start in deeper redraft leagues tonight.
Again, I think there's better standard league options available, but Schmidt might be one of the better arms in that next tier down.
