A new week of fantasy baseball is here, but before we turn the page on last week, we need to discuss the top performers from the weekend (August 16-18).

As discussed in the last fantasy baseball takeaway story, these stories will look a little different going forward. Instead of breaking down every game each weekday, we will instead do a little roundup (like this story), where we only highlight the truly best hitters and pitchers each day. Let’s get to this weekend’s version of things!

Top Hitters

Atlanta Braves’ Marcell Ozuna led the MLB with eight hits over the weekend. He had six singles, a double and a home run, while driving in three runs and scoring five times. Ozuna also walked three times and was not a strikeout victim.

Philadelphia Phillies’ Trea Turner and Kansas City Royals’ Vinnie Pasquantino each finished with seven weekend knocks.

Turner had four singles, two doubles and a home run. He drove in a pair, scored four times, walked once and struck out twice.

Pasquantino had five singles, a double and a homer for the Royals. He drove in seven runs, scored four times, walked once, had a sacrifice fly and struck out twice.

Los Angeles Dodgers’ Miguel Rojas and Boston Red Sox’s Masataka Yoshida had six hits each.

Rojas had five singles and a double. He drove in two runs, scored twice, walked once, stole a base and was not a strikeout victim.

Yoshida had four singles, a double and a home run. He drove in four runs, scored two times, walked on three occasions and was not a strikeout victim.

Kansas City’s Dairon Blanco popped three home runs this weekend. He had five total hits, with the other two being singles. Blanco drove in eight runs, scored five times, stole a base, failed to walk and struck out twice.

KC’s Freddy Fermin and Bobby Witt Jr. and Arizona Diamondbacks’ Corbin Carroll all scored five runs.

Fermin had two singles and doubles for his four weekend hits. He drove in two, walked twice and struck out once.

Witt had two singles, two doubles and a home run for his five weekend knocks. He drove in two, walked three times and was not a strikeout victim.

Carroll had three hits, a single and two home runs. He drove in four, had a sacrifice, failed to walk and struck out three times.

Boston’s Rafael Devers and Baltimore Orioles’ Ramon Urias each drove in five runs this weekend.

Devers had five hits, two homers, two doubles and a single. He scored three runs, walked once and struck out three times.

Urias had three singles and a homer for his four weekend knocks. He scored twice, walked on two occasions, had a sacrifice and struck out only once.

Tampa Bay Rays’ Jose Caballero and Washington Nationals’ CJ Abrams had three stolen bases each this weekend.

Caballero had a double for his lone weekend hit in two games played. He walked once, drove in a pair, scored once and struck out twice.

Abrams had two hits, both singles. He failed to drive in a run or score. Abrams walked once, was hit by a pitch and struck out three times.

Seattle Mariners’ Luke Raley had a .571 average this weekend. He had three singles and a home run among his 11 at-bats, while also walking twice and being plunked by a pitch. Raley drove in three runs, scored twice, had a sacrifice fly and struck out three times.

Top Pitchers

New York Mets’ Luis Severino and Philadelphia’s Cristopher Sanchez each worked complete games on their way to wins this weekend.

Severino allowed just four hits and a walk in a complete game shutout. He also hit a batter, while striking out eight.

Sanchez allowed a run on two hits and no walks. He struck out four batters.

Oakland Athletics’ JP Sears worked 7 2/3 innings and allowed only one run, but didn’t earn a decision. He gave up seven hits and also hit a batter, while striking out nine and walking none.

Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw earned a win after tossing six scoreless innings. He allowed four hits and a walk, while striking out two.

Baltimore Orioles’ Albert Suarez tossed six scoreless and got the victory. He gave up seven hits, while striking out six and walking none.

Milwaukee Brewers’ Colin Rea got a win after working seven scoreless frames. He allowed two hits and also hit two batters, while striking out five and walking none.

New York Yankees’ Gerrit Cole earned a win after working six scoreless. He gave up four hits and two walks, while striking out eight batters.

Yankees’ Marcus Stroman tossed six scoreless but didn’t earn a decision. He too allowed four hits and two walks, while striking out five.

Kansas City’s Michael Wacha got a win after tossing six scoreless. He gave up four hits and a walk, while striking out nine along the way.

Philadelphia’s Aaron Nola took a no decision despite working 6 2/3 scoreless frames. He surrendered seven hits and two walks, while also hitting a batter and striking out four.

Minnesota Twins’ Pablo Lopez tossed six scoreless innings, but didn’t get a decision. He gave up six hits and three hits, while hitting a batter and striking out three.

Houston Astros’ Framber Valdez was a winner after working seven scoreless. He gave up three hits and a walk, while striking out nine.

Milwaukee’s Aaron Civale got a win after tossing six scoreless frames. He allowed four hits and a walk, while striking out four.

Texas Rangers’ Gerson Garabito took a no decision after not allowing a hit over five innings. He walked and hit a batter, while striking out five.

Toronto Blue Jays’ Bowden Francis worked seven scoreless to claim a win. He allowed three hits, while striking out seven and walking none.

Detroit Tigers’ Keider Montero got a win after tossing five scoreless frames. He gave up two hits and two walks, while striking out five.

Oakland’s Osvaldo Bido worked six scoreless and got a win. He allowed one hit and two walks, while striking out six.

Kansas City’s Brady Singer also was a winner after working six scoreless innings. He allowed five hits and a walk, while hitting a batter and striking out six.

Atlanta’s Chris Sale and San Francisco Giants’ Blake Snell each struck out 10 batters in their starts.

Sale got a win after allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over six innings.

Snell didn’t earn a decision after allowing a run on six hits and two walks over seven innings.

Chicago White Sox’s Garrett Crochet struck out nine over just four innings. He allowed a run on four hits and no walks and took a no decision.

Atlanta’s Charlie Morton got a win after striking out seven over 5 1/3 innings. He allowed a run on two hits, two walks and a hit batter.

Tampa Bay’s Jeffrey Springs allowed a run on four hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out seven and got the win.

Dodgers’ Michael Kopech and Pittsburgh Pirates’ David Bednar each earned two saves. 

Kopech retired all six batters he faced, striking out two of them.

Bednar allowed a run on two hits, while striking out five and walking none over two innings.
