Jeffrey Springs and Griffin Canning Among Thursday's Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Streaming Options
Looking at a few waiver wire pitchers to consider streaming in fantasy baseball leagues.
It's time to go over another round of fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups.
We'll start with pitching options in this article, but not include anyone from waiver stories on Monday or Tuesday, or who appeared in Thursday's streaming article. Check back later for a waiver story on hitters.

Should You Add Jeffrey Springs?
Springs has a start against the Tigers on Thursday, so he's another streaming option for you possibly. He's up 2.21% and sits at 49.27% overall.
I was high on Springs coming into the season, but he's struggled to a 4.24 earned run average over 87 innings. He's made 16 appearances, 14 starts and two appearances where he was a follower.
Springs is 6-5 and has 72 strikeouts along the way. He's allowed 50 runs (41 earned) on 75 hits and 32 walks.
His ERA is way above his career 3.57 mark, but his WHIP of 1.23 is actually below his career 1.24 mark. Springs is averaging over two strikeouts less per nine innings than his career mark, while walking a few more.
Springs has been better of late, allowing three or less earned runs in four straight appearances. He is 1-1 with a 3.12 ERA over 26 innings in that stretch. He's allowed 11 runs (nine earned) on 20 hits and three walks, while striking out 23 batters.
The matchup against the Tigers is not great, but Springs is a veteran you can trust, especially because of his upward trend of late. On a weak day of streaming options (and games overall), Springs is a good streamer for all leagues.
I prefer to stream him in most deep leagues, but wouldn't call him a must-add pitcher. He should get a fair amount of streaming starts in standard leagues too.
Should You Add Michael Lorenzen?
Lorenzen will start against the Rays on Thursday afternoon. He's rostered in 14% of fantasy leagues right now.
He's made 15 starts so far this season for the Royals, with the team going 8-7 in those contests. Lorenzen is 4-7 with a 4.81 ERA though.
He's covered 82 1/3 innings, allowing 46 runs (44 earned) on 85 hits and 28 walks. Lorenzen has struck out 69 batters.
Lorenzen looks a lot like Springs, but has a bit better matchup. Lorenzen has also pitched well of late. Over his past three outings, he's got a 3.63 ERA over 17 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs on 10 hits and eight walks, while striking out 15.
He faced the Rays back on April 29, working six strong innings. Lorenzen allowed a run on four hits and two walks, while striking out four.
Lorenzen's strong start against Tampa Bay earlier this season mixed with his recent success makes him a better streaming option than a lot of people realize today. I think he's close to being on the same level as Springs, and maybe might outscore him today.
I'm willing to start Lorenzen in any league type, although I prefer him most in deeper leagues. He's not a must-start pitcher in those leagues, but given who else is available on a light day, Lorenzen is one of the better options.
Should You Add Griffin Canning?
Canning is currently owned in 48% of fantasy leagues. He's starting on Thursday night against the Braves.
Canning has made 15 starts for the Mets this season, and the team is 11-4 in those games. Canning is 7-3 with a 3.91 ERA over 73 2/3 innings pitched.
Canning has allowed 35 runs (32 earned) on 69 hits and 35 walks. He's struck out 68 batters along the way. So far, Canning looks like the best fantasy pitcher we've discussed here.
He has struggled of late though, allowing at least four runs in each of his past three starts. In that stretch, Canning has faced the Nationals, Rays and Phillies and covered just 14 2/3 innings. He's allowed 14 runs (13 earned) on 17 hits and nine walks for a 7.98 ERA, while striking out 10.
Canning hasn't faced the Braves yet this season. Atlanta is stacked with big names throughout its lineup, but it's a group that's underwhelmed all season, and actually serves as a pretty solid matchup for opposing pitchers.
Canning is owned in about half of leagues, but has been trending down. Today is a chance for him to get right in a pretty solid matchup.
On a full day of MLB action, I'd probably be against starting Canning in standard leagues, but I'm willing to consider him in those leagues today. He's a better deep-league streaming option though.
Another poor start would lead to a bunch of fantasy owners dropping Canning, so you'll know if he pitched well or not by seeing if his own percentage goes up or down a couple days from now.
Should You Add Emerson Hancock or Simeon Woods Richardson?
Hancock and Woods Richardson will square off in an afternoon game today, so we'll cover them together. Hancock is at 12% rostered right now. Woods Richardson is at just 5%.
Hancock has made 13 starts for the Mariners this season, with his team going 7-6 in those contests. He's 3-3 with a 5.43 ERA.
That might not look like a great ERA, but it's been three blowup starts that have ballooned that number. He allowed six runs against the Tigers in his first start of the season. Hancock allowed seven runs against the Yankees in mid-May and then surrendered nine runs against the Cubs his last time out.
Those are good or great offenses. That doesn't excuse allowing that many runs, but it doesn't reflect well on Hancock, who has pitched pretty well otherwise. He hasn't allowed over three runs in any of his other 10 starts.
Hancock had a six-start stretch where he posted a 2.41 ERA over 33 2/3 innings. In a four-game stretch, Hancock posted a 3.52 ERA over 23 innings.
Hancock is a decent streaming option today, but he's bogged down by three rough outings, including his last one. A lot of fantasy owners are going to stay away from him today as a result, but I actually think he's in for a pretty good showing and could be one of the better fantasy starting pitchers today.
Woods Richardson has appeared in 11 games this season, making 10 starts and one appearance as the follower. He's 2-4 with a 5.06 ERA over 53 1/3 innings.
Woods Richardson was sent down to the minor leagues in mid-May, and has pitched in three games since a promotion on June 10. He allowed seven runs (six earned) against the Rangers. Woods Richardson then tossed five scoreless innings against the Astros. His last time out, Woods Richardson allowed four runs (three earned) over six frames against the Brewers.
Seattle is a decent fantasy matchup for a pitcher, but Woods Richardson's inconsistent results this season makes him a risky streaming option for the day.
I prefer Hancock over Woods Richardson, but think both guys are just deep-league streaming options, even on the weak day of available options.
Hancock has shown some promise in stretches this season, and usually is able to bounce back from a rough start with several good ones in a row. If the trend continues, he's in line for a solid outing today, but he still is a ways behind the other pitchers we mentioned before these two guys.
Woods Richardson is a desperation streaming option in really deep leagues. He could deliver some solid fantasy totals tonight, but I'm not confident in him right now, so I'd do my best to stay away.
