Top Pitchers
San Francisco Giants’ Blake Snell stole the headlines over the weekend after pitching a no-hitter. He struck out 11 batters while surrendering just three walks in the contest. Snell faced 29 batters in total.
Philadelphia Phillies’ Zack Wheeler was the only other pitcher to reach eight innings. He allowed no runs on two hits and a walk in his eight frames, while striking out nine batters. Wheeler got the win.
Colorado Rockies’ Austin Gomber, Minnesota Twins’ Bailey Ober, Seattle Mariners’ Bryan Woo and Atlanta Braves’ Spencer Schwellenbach all pitched seven innings and allowed three or less runs.
Gomber earned a win after allowing two runs on five hits and a walk. He struck out six batters along the way.
Ober allowed two runs on two hits and two walks over his seven innings. He also hit a batter, but struck out seven to work out of more trouble and get the win.
Woo also got a win. He didn’t allow a run after giving up five hits and no walks. Woo struck out six batters.
Schwellenbach took a no decision after allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out 10 and walked none.
Houston Astros’ Spencer Arrighetti struck out a league-high 12 batters this weekend. He took the loss after allowing a run on five hits and two walks over six frames.
Houston’s Yusei Kikuchi took a no decision despite striking out 11 over 5 2/3 innings. He allowed two runs on three hits and three walks.
Cincinnati Reds’ Hunter Greene earned a win after punching out 11 over six scoreless frames. He gave up one hit and one walk.
Los Angeles Dodgers’ Jack Flaherty tossed six scoreless innings and got a win. He surrendered five hits and one walk, while striking out seven.
Miami Marlins’ Edward Cabrera worked five scoreless innings and got a win. He allowed three hits and two walks, while punching out eight.
Los Angeles Angels’ Jose Soriano didn’t get a win or loss after working six innings. He didn’t allow a run on five hits and two walks. Soriano struck out six.
Washington Nationals’ DJ Herz tossed five frames and got a win. He gave up an unearned run on two hits, a walk and a hit batter, while striking out six.
Washington’s Mitchell Parker got a win after working six scoreless frames. He allowed three hits and three walks, while also striking out three.
Colorado’s Tanner Gordon allowed a run on a hit and walk over six innings, but took a no decision. He struck out four along the way.
San Diego Padres’ Martin Perez didn’t earn a decision either after allowing a run over six innings. He allowed three hits and no walks, while striking out seven.
Seattle’s Logan Gilbert struck out seven over six strong innings, but ended up taking the loss. He allowed a run on four hits and no walks.
New York Mets’ Paul Blackburn got a win after allowing a run on six hits, a hit batter and two walks over six frames. He struck out six.
Washington’s Kyle Finnegan was the only pitcher to record two saves this weekend. He allowed three hits, but no walks over 2 1/3 innings. He struck out one batter.
Kansas City Royals’ Lucas Erceg, Baltimore Orioles’ Cionel Perez, Miami’s Andrew Nardi and Anthony Bender, Minnesota’s Griffin Jax, Tampa Bay Rays’ Edwin Uceta and Manuel Rodriguez and Arizona Diamondbacks’ Justin Martinez all earned two holds this weekend.
Erceg retired all four batters he faced, striking out one of them.
Perez allowed a run despite not allowing a hit. He walked one and also had a strikeout.
Bender retired all six batters he faced this weekend. He struck out two of them. Nardi also got six outs, allowing just a walk along the way. He struck out four batters.
Jax allowed a hit over his two innings on the mound. He struck out four batters.
Uceta tossed three innings, retiring all nine batters he faced. Uceta struck out three. Rodriguez struck out five of the six batters he faced in two innings of work.
Martinez worked two innings, allowing a hit and walk along the way. He struck out six batters.
